So, who got to drive him to the hospital for a gamma globulin shot?

I can’t believe you worked this into a story, Max. No shame …

yes yes, i’m the only one who’s ever worked something personal into a story. for. shame.
from http://www.weeklyplanet.com/2004-12-22/caneat.html:
“Last year, I’d planned to spend my Thanksgiving with the family of a co-worker. But that day, I came down with a dreadful case of the boils. Yes — I know, boils — the absolutely archaic “who-gets-those?” form of medieval blight. But there they were: large, purple and squarely on my ass. I was convinced that I had MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus). Without health insurance, I was destined to die a horrible, pus-leaking death alone. To numb the pain, I sat on frozen bags of potato soup — a horrible concoction I had made earlier that month after a breakup, when I was in the mood to chop a lot of vegetables.”

Didn’t you read the words soup and Thanksgiving? That was a larger point about loneliness and food and holidays … and one of my favorite columns.
Besides, I didn’t willfully engage in said boils. They were a blight, not a bet.

I did arrange for Max to have a physical after his swim to insure he did not leave any contagious infections in our retention pond.
