Janelle Monáe casting for new video today!
August 1st, 2007 by Mosi Reeves in In the BizI wanted to make sure I posted this announcement before it’s too late … but former CL cover subject and soul eccentric Janelle Monáe is holding an open casting call for the video to her single “Violet Stars Happy Hunting.” The casting call runs from 4-9 p.m. at Morehouse College’s Sale Hall Chapel. And yes, you are requested to wear some kind of goofy, ’50s-inspired outfit. Further details, taken from a MySpace post she sent out on Sun., July 29, are below.
Due to intense pressure from bounty hunters, cyberthugs, and the Wolfmasters themselves, we are here to report that Cindi Mayweather’s video for the celebrated anthem “Violet Stars Happy Hunting†will have to be shot in a 7-Day operation known as OPERATION CYBERPROM.
As an android loyal to the cause of Cindi Mayweather, and the betterment of androids everywhere, we first thank you for submitting your cyberinfo, and now urge you to do the following:
1) ATTEND A VIDEO CASTING CALL ON WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 1, 2007.
This video casting call will be held between 4:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. on this coming Wednesday at Sale Hall Chapel at Morehouse College. For directions to Morehouse College and Sale Hall Chapel, please visit:http://www.morehouse.edu/about/directions.html.

2) The “Violet Stars Happy Hunting†video will be shot on this coming Sunday, August 5, 2007, between 1:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. at a location disclosed only to the 100 lucky androids chosen. If chosen, please adjust your schedule accordingly.
3) What Do I Wear? It is not mandatory, but preferred that you come to the casting call in ‘50’s attire. The premise of the video is that MUSE², the Metropolis United High School of Eternal Education (Metropolis’s finest high school), is having a prom. The teenagers have decided to style their dress after the 1950’s, and dress as robots and ‘50’s style teenyboppers. We at Wondaland will handle the robots. So don’t worry about that. But we need you to come dressed appropriately as a ‘50’s rebel, geek, or sockhopper. So yank out a dress that looks like it could have belonged in Grease or American Grafitti. Wear a sweater or leather jacket that looks like it could been worn in A Rebel Without a Cause or Happy Days. Of course, the more creativity you show, the closer you’ll be to Cindi’s heart!
4) Lastly, we at the Wondaland Arts Society, in our never-ending quest to forever change and democratize the way art is produced, monetized and distributed, have decided to offer you the golden opportunity to become an executive producer of the historic Violet Stars Happy Hunting video!
By paying an optional $10.00, you will receive:
* Executive Production credit on the video (yes, this means your name will actually be listed in the video credits!) and
* A signed “Violet Stars Happy Hunting single!” (while supplies last!)PLEASE NOTE: Being an executive producer guarantees you executive production screen credit, NOT a role in the video.
