So I sent a text to a friend of mine last week to let her know I had a spare ticket to see her favorite Atlanta rapper in concert this Tuesday.
“You mean Andre 3000 is performing!!!” she texted back.
“Um no, how about your second favorite Atlanta rapper,” I responded.
“T.I.?!!”
“Not quite … try your third?”
“Not Young Jeezy?”
“Nevermind …”
Needless to say, Ludacris didn’t even make the cut. Guess I overestimated his spot among Atlanta’s hip-hop elite. Maybe Samsung/AT&T did, too, since they put him on the Atlanta bill of their Summer Krush concert series. You can’t even buy one of these tickets, and I’m having a problem giving it away. So I decided to open it up to blog readers just to see if anybody out there could prove my friend wrong.
All you have to do is respond to this post and tell me why Ludacris deserves a higher ranking than fourth among Atlanta’s top rappers. (Side note: MTV’s hip-hop brain trust didn’t even rank him among its recently released top 10 hottest MC’s in the game.)
To avoid any further embarrassment — both mine and his — I’m going to take the first person to respond who is 21 or older. You must also be willing to have your photo and the details of your night at the show posted on Crib Notes.
That’s right, I’m taggin’ along.
Doors open at 8 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 20, at the undisclosed location. Leave your e-mail in the response and I’ll hit you up with the rest of the details.
Redeem yourselves, Ludacris fans.
NOTE: In case you miss Tuesday’s concert, Ludacris has another planned for Sept. 2 at Opera to wrap up Luda Day weekend. It will feature special guests including Ne-Yo, Chingy and Bobby Valentino. You can register to win tickets by logging onto www.ludadayconcert.com. And you may still be able to win your own tickets to Tuesday’s show. Click here for details.

Um, Tuesday is August 21st, right?
I think Ludacris deserves a higher ranking because c’mon, he’s really great on Runaway Love with Macy Gray. Maybe it’s for a younger crowd — middle school kids, all races, sing that song. Also, Ludacris started a foundation a few years ago right here in Atlanta for kids and he has his mom help him run it. He’s serious about it and he’s a really nice guy. I don’t know that I’ve ever heard him sing though .. is that a requirement?
I’m really writing because I wondered how to get this posted on Creative Loafing online to create some buzz: Ciara is coming to Macy’s Lenox Sunday 8/26, 2PM. Free Tickets available to her concert, Screamfest, that night!
On Sunday, August 26th, from 2 – 4 p.m., Atlanta’s own Grammy girl, Ciara, will be modeling, sharing stories and signing autographs at Macy’s at Lenox. RocaWear is giving away two free tickets with any $100 purchase at the event to Ciara’s concert that night (Screamfest at Philips!). Can you let your readers know about this on Friday and Saturday, August 24 and 25th so they can come out and score tickets? Thanks!
Please let me know as soon as possible if you’d like some interview time with Ciara, too. She’s available to the press at 1PM.
Thanks for your consideration,
Ginger

Thanks for the correction, Ginger. You are right. Tuesday is Aug. 21.
Ludacris isn’t a singer, though; he’s a rapper. And his hit “Runaway Love” is a collaboration with Mary J. Blige, not Macy Gray. But I bet he and Macy could make a killer remix.
I’m sure you meant to say Mary, but you probably had Macy on the brain since you’re promoting Ciara’s show at Macy’s. I’ll be sure to email you about that. Thanks for the info…
So I take it you don’t want the Ludacris ticket either, huh?

LOL — what is a redheaded Jewish girl doing talking about rap, huh? It’s no wonder retail overrules. Yep, Macy … Macy’s … Mary J. — she’d No way for me to go back and fix the errors of my ways, is there? … just like high school. Thanks for inquiring about Ciara, though. I hear she is looking forward to coming to Atlanta, meeting and greeting at Macy’s Lenox (old stomping grounds), and performing that night at Philips.
I really am surprised you can’t “give away” a Ludacris ticket. And you come along for the ride, right? Obviously I am not the one to know this — I’ve already made that perfectly clear — but I really did think he was a popular — ahem — rapper.
I think I’ll shoot this over to my ex at Radiculture Records/Alien Music. They will be on the floor with my ridiculousness.

Ok Ginger,
No more free advertising for you. The next post will cost ya.
By the way, who is your ex?
August 21st, 2007 at 1:47 pm
John Schlanger is my ex — or my “wasband” as we call it. :) Still good friends and I still enable him the opportunity to make fun of me whenever it is reasonable. He runs the IT and contract stuff for sampling (I barely know what that is) for Radiculture and Alien. (This is the new company formed by Ceelo and his business partner, KC Morton). They have been in their new digs about 8 months south of Buckhead. He would know who would want to go see Ludacris with you!
And I did not mean to wear out my welcome w/ free advertising. But how does an event get listed online? I tried submitting but there are like 1097 submissions.
