As the audience grew tired of waiting at the Samsung AT&T Summer Krush, a symphony of boos circulated the almost full Tabernacle on Tuesday night. Meanwhile fans ranging from young to old continued to fill the auditorium in anticipation to see the often half-naked rapper Nelly.

Just as he did on the BET awards, Nelly showcased his all-female marching band dressed in matching Apple Bottom outfits and Air Jordans to open up the show. As the ladies got the crowd hyped while dancing to Soulja Boy’s “She Gotta Donk” and other ATL favorites, the blinged-out bracelet and Army dog-tag wearing rapper appeared onstage to give the audience what they’d been longing for since the doors opened.

He performed various songs from his previous solo albums, his group the St. Lunatics’ album, and from his fifth album Brass Knuckles set to hit shelves on Sept. 16. Nelly also had a lot of surprising guests that even wowed his entourage on stage, including super-producer Jermaine Dupri, Chingy (who only danced on stage), Durrty Ent. artist Avery Storm (featured on Rick Ross’s “Here I Am”), and local artist Gucci Mane who is featured on Nelly’s upcoming album.

But the biggest and most unexpected surprise of the entire night was seeing the reunion of Goodie Mob. As Nelly performed “Grillz,” Goodie Mob member Big Gipp dressed like a dark pink flamingo in his feathered coat and fitted cap did his verse while showing how Gipp still “got dem yellows, got dem purples, got dem reds.” He then performed with his fellow Goodie Mob members. After running through classics “Sky High” and “They Don’t Dance No Mo,” the audience was stuck in a trance from seeing one of Atlanta’s legendary hip-hop groups.

As the night progressed Nelly gave two lucky ladies a chance to get on stage. Instead of rapping to them the stage turned into part two of his raunchiest video ever, “Tip Drill.” As the girls battled for Nelly’s attention, he stopped the song and soon after the show ended with him promoting his new album for the 100th time.

Perhaps he didn’t know that everyone heard him the first time.
