Soulja Boy shouts out slave masters

IGNORANCE IS BLISS
Apparently, CL’s BET Hip-Hop Awards wrap-up, Too Bootleg for TV, wasn’t the worst of the red carpet. BET correspondent and former Rolling Stone contributor, Toure, asked Atlanta rapper Soulja Boy what historical figure he most hated.
His response:
“Oh wait! Hold up! Shout out to the slave masters! Without them we’d still be in Africa. We wouldn’t be here to get this ice and tattoos.”
As CL contributor Jacinta Howard summates on her blog, 4 Cryin Out Loud:
See, this what ya’ll get for constantly defending this little dude.
“Oh, he’s only 17!”
“Oh, he’s only for the kids!”
“Oh, stop hatin! He’s smart, he knew how to work YouTube!”
Like I’ve been saying— Soulja Boy’s age is no excuse for the coonery…. Hell, even Will Smith was a teenager when he came out. “Parents Just Don’t Understand” — now that’s a song “for the kids.”
This kinda shit is what happens when you consistently excuse people’s coonish behavior….

Um…
It seems to me that he was being sarcastic–after he “shouted out” the slave masters as historical figures he most hated. That was the question, right?
Soulja Boy has the sense of humor of an 18 year old kid that wears BAPE and writes his name on his shades with corrective ink. You can’t expect him to say anything genius. Lord knows The Fresh Prince actually used to brag about how his bodyguard would perform manslaughter on anyone. Check “Charlie Mack” from back in the day…
But I think we are being a little harsh on the Mr. Tellum. What I interpret is that he’s saying, “Look, they never wanted to see us with money to buy our own jewelry and free will to create art on our own bodies, since we own ourselves now.”
Shout out to J. Boogie though.

he is right what’s the problem? why can’t he mean it exactly as stated? talk about making lemonade… his attitude is mature and he is right.. just taboo subject is all.

If soulja boy is serious then I applaud him. He is absolutely right; his generation would be in Africa if their ancestors didn’t suffer the sorrows of slavery. I would dare say he has it better here than he ever would in Africa.

Sooooooo, we’re going to assume this guy is making a poignant observation on the state of African-Americans today, rising up against slave owners, to have a SMALL percentage of the population being paid exhorbent amounts of money to rap and play sports, yet the other 95% live in poverty, prison and the morgue. OK. Thank God if Barrack is voted in the whole “race” issue will be solved right? I mean, if a black man can be president, certainely us whites can have a break now. Right?!? This country is going to you, and people like Soulja Boy, arwe leading the way with rip-off songs and bad grammar. USA!USA!

It’s not nice to talk about, but at the end of the day, he’s 100% right.
The suffering of slaves is what paved the way for the current prosperity of blacks in America.
Without the slave trade, Souljah boy and most other blacks would be impoverished, uneducated and starving somewhere in Africa.
