Elton John & Billy Joel face off at Philips Arena Sat., March 14th
December 1st, 2008 by Chad Radford in Music news, See & DoOn Saturday, March 14th, two titans of song, Elton John and Billy Joel will go head-to-head, song for song, tit-for-tat at Philips Arena for the Face to Face tour.
EJ and BJ will open the show with a series of duets, playing twin pianos and trading vocals. Each artist will then perform a set with their own band. When the smoke clears a grand finale will bring them together again for a closing encore running through hits from their respective catalogs as well as several other rock and roll classics.
“I love touring with Billy. I have the greatest respect for him and we’re such good friends,” Elton said.
“The great thing about performing with Elton is that he is such a good piano player and that makes me have to dig deep to keep up with him, not to mention I’ve got the best seat in the house-only one piano away from Elton John!” said Billy.
Tickets will go on sale Sat. Dec. 6 at 10 a.m. at Ticketmaster, TicketMaster.com, LiveNation.com, the Philips Arena box office or charge by phone at (404) 249-6400.
One ticket will get you a whole seat, but you only need the edge…
And although this isn’t exactly the typical Crib Notes fodder the pairing of EJ and BJ has spawned such a heated debate in the office that we’re opening the floor to our readers. Drop us a line and let us know who you like more and why, and we’ll give the best response two tickets to the King Tut Exhibit at the Atlanta Civic Center.

Well I have to say I like Elton John more, but that is not because I dislike Billy Joel. I just haven’t aquired a taste for Billy Joel. I think so much of why people like certain music is exposure. I know my own music tastes directly relate to what my parents listened to. My parents were avid music listeners and still are and know current artists that I don’t.
With that said I think Billy Joel just kind of missed my parents, he came around at a time when they were still listening to older music and not newer music becasue they had young children and didn’t get out much. So I never had the exposure to Billy as much as let say Elton, who is close in age with my father, so my dad was a young man when Elton came along and he stuck. So Elton has always been around.
I had told my husand over the last two years that I had to see Elton John he was getting older and it was certainly time. Behold concert annoucement this past March in Savannah, and I got to see Elton John (a few days before my anniversary nice gift). That was it, I was sure then I loved EJ, I have since sought out obscure older music in addition to recent live recordings (youtube esp.) because his voice now is just beautiful, deep, and full of soul. Before his throat surgery he was good singer, now he is phenominal. July I was presented with a second opportunity to see Elton live in Atlantic City, and now I have my tickets to the Philips Arena Face to Face (In March again, another anniversary gift a weekend in Atlanta).
And though I pick ELton as my favorite, seeing him live made him my favorite, so the same might be true for Billy Joel.
