Fourth Beastie Boy Ricky Powell invades Atlanta tonight

Photographer Ricky Powell (as in “homeboy throw in the towel…”) was notoriously hailed as the fourth Beastie Boy during the group’s Liscensed to Ill and Paul’s Boutique era. Tonight (Tues., Feb. 24) Powell will be making two stops around town in support of a new book of photography, titled Oh Snap!
First he hits up Criminal Records for a quick DJ set from 3 to 4 p.m.
After that he’s making an appearance at El Bar behind El Azteca on Ponce de Leon Avenue to present a slide show discussion of some history and his photos, and spin some more records. Entry for the El Bar show is $5.

Oh shit! Happened into lil’ Ricky’s slide show negathon at the El Bar Last night. It was funny for about 3 minutes, then the “he’s another Black dude who liked me” original wigger schtick got old really quick. When the hecklers started piling on lil’ Ricky flipped his shit and went straight into “shut bitch and get me a drink before I punch you in your adamm’s apple” mode. No surprise that before his “set” was over 99 percent of the ladies had fled the premises.
Later that evevening Ricky turned up at Romeo Cologne and Kwasi’s funk-disco party the Star Bar. He was in the corner of the dancefloor man-handling a very Rubenesque admirer’s lady lumps. At one point she unzipped his fly and giggled his junk. he took off his shirt, then fell backwards into the trash can. No lie. Keep it classy Ricky Powell!

I was there too. It was totally painful. When the bartenders start sending over fake shots – you have a problem on your hands. The “fraudster” got through 4 slides. What a loser. He kept telling everyone to fuck off, and then every time someone made a noise he yelled drunkenly into the microphone for “that bitch to get kicked out”. we hear about his “beef in NYC” about 20 times. What a washed up loser.
