After a year-long battle with cancer, Guru, one half of hip-hop legends Gang Starr, has passed away. The rapper suffered cardiac arrest back in March and had been in a coma since.

While in the hospital sometime in the last few months, Guru penned a letter that was to be read following his death. In it, he makes the unfortunate (or badass, depending who you ask) decision to revive a mysterious feud between himself and Gang Starr’s DJ Premier.

?
In contrast, the letter has nothing but glowing things to say about Solar, the MC and producer Guru had worked with most over the past decade. Members of Guru’s family had previously accused Solar of withholding information about Guru’s health. Cue the crazies: Now, a comment battle rages over whether Guru actually typed his farewell tome.

?
For his part, back in March, DJ Premier questioned the motives of those surrounding the stricken Guru, claiming that “evil lurks in Guru’s life.”

?
Whether Solar is some sort of calculating, self-praising evil mastermind (doubtful) is ultimately beside the point. Guru will be remembered as one of the top MCs of his time; and regardless of whatever beef may have existed between him and Premier, Gang Starr put out some truly great material that hits as hard today as it did back when.
