Neil Young, what’s up with those high ticket prices?

At $75-$225 a ticket, freedom ain’t cheap

?
When it comes to Scottish-born, Brit. folk icons of the ’60s & ’70s it doesn’t get much cooler than Bert Jansch. He’s a virtuoso but not a show off, and a reserved performer whose songs wrap all sorts of bleak imagery in a tangle of pretty and unpretentious strums and coos.

?
The good news is that the inimitable Mr.  Jansch is opening for Neil Young at the Fabulous Fox Theatre This Saturday, May 29. This is his first set of U.S. appearances since 2007, following a tour that was canceled last year due to illness. Bert’s back and he’s hot on the heels of a great album, ’06s The Black Swan, and CD reissues of three of his essential albums from the ’70s, LA Turnaround, Santa Barbara Honeymoon and A Rare Conundrum (Drag City).

?
The bad news is that he’s opening for Neil Young and tickets are $75-$225. Seriously, who can afford that?

?
The bottom line is this. It costs $75-$225 to see a Neil Young solo acoustic show? It’s a SOLO concert! There’s no band to pay, just two guys playing guitars all by their lonesome selves. Let’s say you want to go and maybe take a date or a friend or whoever.  You’re looking at spending $150-$450. You would think that Neil Young would be the kind of cool guy that would at least give you a $35 nosebleed seats at least, but no such luck. Freedom ain’t free cheap, and when Neil Young is asking $225 per seat the terrorists have won.
