Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

Guns_300x According to Wired.com Kevin “Skwerl” Gogill, who is best known as the guy from LA who was arrested on accusations of uploading nine pre-released songs from Guns N’ Roses epically forthcoming Chinese Democracy, will plead guilty to one federal count of copyright infringement.

As part of a plea deal that will be entered on Dec. 8, Cogill, 27, will plead guilty to uploading the songs to his site Antiquiet, and face up to one year in prison for a misdemeanor charge of copyright infringement.

Cogill is the first Californian charged under a 3-year-old federal antipiracy law that makes it a felony to distribute unreleased copyright works online.

Chock up the martyr points for Antiquiet.com blogger Kevin “Skwerl” Cogill. According to Billboard.com “Best Buy is set to be the exclusive retailer for Guns N’ Roses decade-plus-in-the-making new album Chinese Democracy before year’s end…”

Cogill is best known as the blogger who leaked Guns ‘n Roses perpetually forthcoming album, Chinese Democracy.

As a result of his leakage Cogill now faces up to three years in prison and $250,000 in fines. One cannot help but wonder how much Skwerl’s activities had to do with seeing the album’s this year.

According to an Associated Press report federal authorities say they have arrested a blogger suspected of streaming songs from Guns N’ Roses’ ridiculously long over due unreleased album, Chinese Democracy, on the website www.antiquiet.com.

FBI agents arrested 27-year-old Kevin Cogill (A.K.A. Skwerl) on Wednesday morning (Aug. 27th) on suspicion of violating federal copyright laws. Federal authorities say Cogill posted nine unreleased Guns N’ Roses songs on his website in June.

Sadly, the songs have been removed from the site. But after almost 14 years of Axl Roses’ antics nothing could possibly live up to the hype surrounding this record, which still has no formal release date.

Even way back in 2003 the Offspring made a joke that they were going to call their forthcoming album Chinese Democracy (You Snooze, You Lose), but it was just an April Fools day joke. Regardless, that was 2003 and the record’s continually delayed release was already a joke back then.
