Kid Rock joins Zac Brown & friends for GA Theatre benefit

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

Zac BrownKid Rock and country artists Joey+Rory have been added to the lineup for the Georgia Theatre benefit at Atlanta’s Fox Theatre, spearheaded by the Zac Brown Band on Fri., Oct. 30. Little Big Town, Shawn Mullins, Oliver Wood (of Medeski, Martin and Wood) and Aslyn are also scheduled to perform.

Tickets are available for $100 through Ticketmaster, by phone at 800-745-3000, or at the Fox Theatre box office located at 660 Peachtree St.

Proceeds will go directly to The Georgia Theatre Rehabilitation Fund, handled by The Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation, to rebuild the decommissioned Georgia Theatre after it caught on fire earlier this year.

… It seems like an awful lot of money to pay to have to suffer through a Kid Rock show, but hey, its for a good cause.

R. Kelly recruits Atlantans for new album, Untitled

Like Michael Jackson when he was alive, R. Kelly is simultaneously worshipped and reviled. Few inspire such widespread curiosity about their private lives, and the intrigue surrounding the pied piper of R&B (great nickname) certainly hasn’t died down since his acquittal on child pornography charges last June.

He recently admitted he was functionally illiterate, and a press tour of his palatial Chicagoland home this summer put his Neverland-like environs on full display. New York radio personality Miss Info reported that the outside of his house looks like a suburban church, the inside looks like a luxury ski lodge, and that he served a punch called “Sex in the Kitchen.” Like his choice of cocktails, his recent music similarly has not shied away from explicitly sexual material.

There’s no business like personal business for Keyshia Cole

Keyshia Cole

SHOW BUSINESS: Keyshia Cole

After witnessing Keyshia Cole endure verbal spats with her mom and DNA tests with random guys claiming to be her dad, you’d think her hit BET reality show “Keyshia Cole: The Way It Is” has revealed everything there is to know about the artist.

Sure, she’s probably a little too tolerant of her unrefined mother, Frankie. And yeah, she’s got a giving spirit, as suggested by the extended family she helps support. But Keyshia Cole’s also a perfectionist when it comes to her career.

After being a featured act in Lil’ Wayne’s I Am Music tour earlier this year, Cole could have easily reprised many of the show’s technical elements for her A Different Me tour. Her legion of followers wouldn’t have cared a lick. But that’s not what Keyshia wanted.

Ryan Adams returns to Atlanta to make up for botched performance

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

Atlanta blog Cable & Tweed reported today that Ryan Adams and Co. are coming back to Atlanta, to make up for a botched performance back in October.

According to Cable & Tweed:

…it looks like Ryan and the band are going to make up for any disappointment. Atlanta Music Guide says that they will play at the Fox Theatre on March 20, and fans who attended the October 17 show can go for free. I presume other individuals can buy tickets per usual, but the show is not yet on the Fox calendar.

Head over to AMG for further details on the ticket exchange program.

doll_posse.jpg I must confess, I have been a TORI AMOS hater for years, repelled by her pretentiousness and overwrought lyricism. But her latest CD American Doll brought me around, especially the kickoff tune about “King George.” HA! But there will be plenty of cringe-worthy moments at the Wed., NOV. 14, show, although she really puts out on stage, if you get my drift. $31.50-$43.50. 8 p.m. Fox Theatre, 660 Peachtree St. 404-249-4600. www.foxtheatre.org.
