As the lead single from their latest full-length release goes, “Ready for the Floor” — that is exactly what the throngs of people at Hot Chip’s Variety Playhouse show were on Thursday night October 9.
A very up-for-it crowd soaked up the band’s idiosyncratic knack for playing a wide-ranging sound that fearlessly ventured everywhere from electro-pop-infused indie rock to killer soulful R&B slow jams. As they effortlessly worked the crowd up with rowdy club bangers like “Over and Over” and “Shake a Fist,” they just as effortlessly wound them down with their more downtempo numbers — like the poignant “Made in the Dark.”
