The Echo Project forms on the Chattahoochee

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

It’s been two years since Music Midtown dissolved, and Atlanta hasn’t had a major music festival since. I’m not talking about festivals stocked with superior local talent (Corndogorama) or jazz festivals (Atlanta Jazz Festival, Montreaux). I’m referring to the massive, Bonnaroo-styled confabs packed with national and international pop acts.

That will ostensibly change with the Echo Project, a three-day music-and-arts festival taking place Oct. 12-14 at Bouckaert Farm, which is located along the Chattahoochee River. The lineup will include some 60-plus acts, according to a press release, including the Killers, Phil Lesh & Friends, the Roots, Cat Power, Rodrigo y Gabriela and many others. The music will be supplemented by an environmental component. Organizers plan to use alternative energy sources, recycling initiatives and solar power to run the festival.

It’s pretty interesting stuff, and there will surely be more developments as the event draws closer. Stay tuned.
