Creative Loafing at DJ Klever’s crib + “Hot” remixes

Tuesday, November 4th, 2008

From world turntablist champ (DMC 2000-’01) to internationally-renowned club DJ, Klever’s been there done that. But can he make the switch from mixing and scratching to tracking his own beats?

We tour his Atlanta digs to find out:

Along with Atlanta DJs Rob Wonder and Treasure Fingers, Scion A/V contracted Klever to produce a remix of “Hot” by Big Gipp of Goodie Mob. All three versions dropped last month:

New track: Noot d’ Noot featuring Grip Plyaz and Muffy

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

“Retail Girls” was recorded in the spring 2008 at The Living Room, by Ed Rawls and Justin McNeight. The song mashes up the music of polyrhythymic funk of Noot d’ Noot and the down South vocal stylings of Grip Plyaz and the pop whir of Muffy. All three parties were brought into the studio for a musical endeavor that was spearheaded by Atlanta DJ Rob Wonder A.K.A. “No Static At All.”

El Bar, we hardly knew ye

El Bar, the Midtown hot spot tucked in the basement beneath El Azteca restaurant, is going the way of the dodo bird. Last Tuesday, while the Triple D’s crew celebrated an “anti-Valentine’s Day party” with inflatable sex dolls and raffle prizes, co-owner and indefatigable DJ Rob Wonder broke the bad news. Closing night is set for Friday, Feb. 29, but Rob says he has no special plans other than to just, you know, spin some records. If you’ve never been to the stonewalled club billed as “Atlanta’s best-kept secret,” you’ve got until the end of the month to pay a visit.
