Pine hosts final free Thursday Star Bar show this week

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009

Pine Magazine is hosting their final free Thursday night show this week at the Star Bar. Since January ‘08, Pine has brought more than 100 bands to play these shows.

For this last hurrah the lineup features an eclectic roster of acts that includes performances of folk-punk story telling from the Wild, mathy and electronic post-rock via This Piano Plays Itself, brittle and etheral strings/electronic pop tones from Tealights, and the neo-soul/new wave sounds of Night Moves Gold.

There will also be DJ sets from Justin Hughes (Glen Iris, ex-Batata Doce, ex- Lady’s Night, ex-rock*A*Teens) and DJ Press Play.

According to a post that went up on Pine this morning:

Our Star Bar series started with Soundlab 84, ISP and Pine back in January 2008 and, since then, more than 100 bands have played our free First Thursday shows, including: T Model Ford, Missile Command, Club Awesome, Hollow Stars, Hawks, Lay Down Mains, Deleted Scenes, Surfer Blood, Gold Standard, Thy Mighty Contract and many, many, many others. Many. It’s been a lot of fun.

The show is free and the music starts promptly at 10 p.m. The Star Bar, 437 Moreland Ave. 404-681-9018.

Blog Party: Señor Kaos shoots a vid; Lil Kim breaks the ice; Ohmpark goes on tour

Friday, July 10th, 2009

Weekly scoops from some of our favorite Atlanta-based music blogs…

>>via the Kaos Effect — What are you doing this Saturday? Making a cameo in Senor Kaos’ new music video this weekend would sure be unique:

What’s going on party people. Just wanted to spread the word that I’m shooting a video this Saturday in Atlanta for the song “Automatic Classic.”

The shoot will be taking place at The Atlanta Bench on Marietta Street at 9am. Hoping everybody gets a chance to make it out. The flyer is below.

>>via Straight From the A — Yet another Beyonce music video. Believe it or not it’s the sixth single form her most recent album I am…Sasha Fierce:

Beyonce has released yet another “classic” video. “Sweet Dreams” dropped a day sooner than MTV’s planned schedule. The video, directed by Adria Petty, begins with Bey having a soundless sleep and continues with a dance sequence during sunrise. “Sweet Dreams” is the 6th U.S. single from Beyonce’s third studio album “I Am…Sasha Fierce.”

>>via Kiss Atlanta — Dance superstar Bob Sinclar returns with a few new songs. Grab your glow sticks and head over to Kiss Atlanta to stream:

Another DJ asked me if I had the new Bob Sinclar at our party last night, he just came back from Italy and had the “Lala Song” stuck in his head. The new album hasn’t got much press, but these songs are not to miss

>>via Crunk + DisorderlyFaith Evans and Lil’ Kim thought it’d be nice to stir up some controversy between each other for old times’ sake:

Sources with AllHipHop.com said that Lil Kim took issue with her representation in Notorious, the biopic in which Faith was attached to.

Faith was in attendance with her husband and Lil Kim was with producer Choke No Joke and to some, this augmented the tension.

“It was really heated,” one source said. “It was about to pop off…there was crazy screaming.”

>>via Ohmpark — Any die hard This Piano Plays Itself fans out there? Make sure to stay tuned to Davy Minor and Ohmpark as he follows the band on tour for three weeks:

Our friends This Piano Plays Itself have invited me to tag along for their summer tour again, so I am taking the blog on the road for the next three weeks.
