Kelly McKernan in 100th Juxtapoz

… kind of.

It’s not the cover story, nor is it an article per se (it’s an advertisement). Turn to page four, and you’ll see an ad by Definition Gallery in Baltimore, promoting its upcoming Quantum Exhibit, opening May 1. Atlanta’s Kelly McKernan will show alongside the likes of Leslie Ditto (represented in Atlanta by Alcove Gallery), Silvia Ortiz and Gilbert Oh.

Juxtapoz 100 hit newsstands late last week, celebrating 15 years since the magazine’s inception in 1994. As Jerry Cullum has kindly pointed out, it’s strange to consider that lowbrow — a movement often portrayed as young and anti-establishment (i.e., “the punk rock of the art scene,” to borrow the words of another Culture Surfing contributor) — is already old enough to become the subject of massive museum retrospectives, not to mention studies in art history, scholarly articles, etc.

Time flies …
