WE'VE SAVED SEATS FOR ALL OF YOU: Jerry Siegel's 'Tent Revival' is just one of many photos in his solo at Barbara Archer Gallery, one of the first events in this year's Atlanta Celebrates Photography festival.

This photograph is so crisp and luminescent, and so warm despite its silence, I’ve decided to post it at the maximum size. The moment anticipates a miracle — an event that’s special not necessarily because of divine intervention, but because human beings have gathered to celebrate and partake in something beautiful.

I have five reasons to expect new life for arts in Atlanta:

1. The Atlanta Zombie Symposium is Saturday. Literally revived from the dead, the subjects of artist/organizer Stan Woodard’s three-part event aren’t just pop culture icons. See Curt Holman’s shout out below for more info.

2. Marcia Wood Gallery is open again. After a one-month summer vacation, last night was the opening reception for two new shows at Marcia Wood, both of which will continue through Oct. 17.

3. Barbara Archer Gallery is also open again. Today, Fri. Sept. 11 marks the first exhibition opening at Barbara Archer since April. Jerry Siegel’s Images from the Black Belt of the American South is on view now.

4. Solomon Projects will be open soon. Radcliffe Bailey’s much-awaited solo will be opening Thurs. Sept. 17. The gallery has been otherwise silent all summer long.

5. Atlanta Celebrates Photography is now picking up steam. They’re adding new events to their website every week. Here’s what’s happening now.
