(Well, actually, to be married to a source inside the entertainment industry.)

Bad idea. They should have gone with either Hugh Jackman or Neil Patrick Harris. Either would be stupendous. Jackman did a bang-up job last year (best Oscar telecast since the last time Billy Cristal hosted) – and NPH has proven himself by hosting both the Tony’s and the Emmy’s flawlessly. While I like Steve Martin (and Alec Baldwin) – neither would be my first choice to host a softball game – let alone the Academy Awards.

Martin has hosted the Oscars twice before, in 2000 and 2002, and he happens to be my personal favorite host. In fact, he’s one of my personal favorite entertainers, period. The man is a straight-up genius, the terrible movies he’s made are amazing.

He should just play banjo the entire time. I would actually watch it if that happened.

@Nancy: Reportedly Hugh Jackman was asked to host again, but he turned them down.
Martin and Baldwin are an interesting combination because they both specialize in “cool” (as in “not warm”) comedic personae: it’s not like the traditional comedic pairing of a “smart guy” with a “dumb guy.”
It’s also a fairly blatant tie-in with the upcoming film ‘It’s Complicated,’ starring Martin, Baldwin and Meryl Streep.
