The new movie The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard, starring Jeremy Piven as a fast-talking used-car dealer, will receive a proper opening night at Atlanta’s own Starlight Six Drive-In this Thursday, with an evening of burlesque and hot rod mayhem.
Entertainment will include performances by Syrens of the South Burlesque, a hot rod car show, live music, a junk yard car smash and a car wash, courtesy of scantily clad ladies. Oh, and of course, the aforementioned film. The events begin at 7:30 p.m., the movie at 9:30 p.m.
To gain entry to this special event, you must RSVP by 2 p.m. Wednesday by sending an email to this address. One car per RSVP, s’il vous plait.

LIGHTS OUT: 'Friday Night Lights' wrapped season three last week.
1. The Televangelist: ‘Friday Night Lights’ season three finale (Eric and Tami say goodbye Panthers, hello East Dillon High.)
2. The Lazy Reader’s Guide to Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (Dropping one spot from last week, Wyatt Williams’ post about Brit lit’s new undead has taken on, uh, a life of its own.)
3. The Televangelist: ‘Lost’ episode 13 (Normally we’d scold you, saying all this TV you’re watching will rot your brain, but “Lost” is one hell of a mind game, especially when characters are seeing past versions of their fathers holding infant thems.)
4. Big burlesque weekend! (Y’all love some “hip-swiveling, tassle-twirling action.”)
5. Amazon.com ‘pinklisting’ includes Atlanta authors (Does Amazon hate gays? Not likely, as it seems some sort of internal glitch was responsible for the Easter weekend hullabaloo.)

The legendary Sally Rand
Fans of burlesque will be spoiled for choice in Atlanta this weekend, with several local groups in hip-swiveling, tassle-twirling action. In alphabetical order:
- Big City Burlesque, which bills itself as “Atlanta’s only all-retro burlesque & vaudeville troupe,” will perform Saturday night at an event called JordanCon at a hotel in Alpharetta. To answer the obvious question: “JordanCon is the first convention dedicated to exploring Robert Jordan’s The Wheel of Time series.” I assume the folks to whom this event would appeal will know who they are.
- Dames Aflame will once again team up with Big Mike’s Tongo Hiti to provide entertainment at Trader Vic’s 75th Anniversary Party in the downtown Hilton. This event is Saturday night as well.
- Effie’s Club Follies, which bills itself as “slapstrip comedic burlesque,” also performs Saturday at the 40 Watt Club in Athens for the 20th Annual Boybutante Ball, an AIDS benefit. Just a tip: if you go to this event hoping to see some nekkid girlies, well, you’ll be the only one.
- Finally, Syrens of the South will host its 2nd Annual Spring Chicken Vaudeville and Variety Show — Saturday, natch — at Relapse Theatre on 14th Street.
Decisions, decisions! Now you have no excuse not to work some skin into your diet.
