Five Things to Do Today

October 8, 2008 at 10:08 am by Leilani Polk

vaginamon Five Things to Do Today1. I did it. CL Publisher Sharry Smith did it, too, and I got to watch. See other local ladies of renown perform readings in American Stage’s current production of The Vagina Monologues, which pairs a cast of four core actresses with one to three guest readers every show; tonight’s guests are Tampa Bay Beaches Chamber of Commerce President Robin Grabowski, and 1010-WQYK AM SportChix Lynne Austin and Leslee Lacey. 10:30 p.m., admission by donation.  Pictured clockwise from top: Brandii Edwards, Jessica Alexander, Magali Naas and Bonnie Agan.

2. Humane Society of Pinellas offers a three-week “Petiquette Class.” Participants get behavior questions answered, learn how to teach their dogs new behaviors and solve unwanted behaviors, and much more. Ann Farmer of Courteous leads the class. 6:30 p.m. Oct. 8, 15 and 22 at Humane Society of Pinellas, $50. For more info or to register, call 727-415-1567 or e-mail ann@courteouscanine.com.

3. Nova Art Lounge launches a new Wednesday “Nova Nights” series. Ladies who wear red enjoy free tastings of red wine and vodka from 7 to 9 p.m.

4. Tonight’s program topic at the Tampa Bay Sierra Club General Meeting is “Will Your Vote Count in November?” with Buddy Johnson, supervisor of elections for Hillsborough County. The public is welcome to attend. 6:30 p.m., Children’s Board of Hillsborough County, Tampa, free admission.

5. St. Pete photographer Herb Snitzer talks about his 1959 black-and-white photograph “Freedom Now” — an image from Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art’s permanent collection influenced by the Civil Rights Movement — during an “On the Easel” discussion, which ties in with the current exhibition, Mel Finkelstein: Playing a Hunch. Noon, LRMA, lecture included with museum admission: $5 adults, $4 seniors; free for members.
