Teens: Anal sex keeps us virgins
December 12, 2008 at 9:55 am by Alex PickettA November study by the Bradley Hasbro Children’s Research Center in Rhode Island suggests that heterosexual anal intercourse is rising among teenagers, who have some pretty interesting ideas about the practice.
Some results from the study (which was also published online by the American Journal of Public Health:
… Researchers assessed the sexual behavior of 1,348 adolescents and young adults between the ages of 15 and 21 who had unprotected sex in the previous three months. They found that 16 percent had engaged in heterosexual anal intercourse within the time frame, with condoms being used just 29 percent of the time.
A Denver ABC news network found the best quote from the study’s author:
“Given the subject matter, it is likely that the numbers reported may actually be an underestimate of the prevalence of these behaviors.”
Despite these teens’ shyness, researchers discovered many of the respondents didn’t think you could get STDs if you go through the back door (you can). But the most interesting find just confirms past studies on the practice that found many girls choose anal sex so they can remain “technical” virgins.
You remember the virginity pledge, right?
