Happy Earth Day to you, Happy Earth Day to you…. The ED celebrations have been going on for a while now and will continue for many days hence, but listed below are some of the events scheduled for today’s observance (plus some of today’s non-green-themed happenings). Eco Fest and Trashy Fashion Show. Largo’s “reduce, reuse, recycle” Earth Day party opens with a green expo and spotlight on “green” designers of all ages. Official participants use a minimum of 75 percent recycled materials, and show off their wearable “green” designs during the runway show that follows. Free seeds, free advice at Whole Foods. Tampa’s Whole Foods Market, 1Sky and Southern Alliance for Clean Energy join together to teach about renewable sources and strategies to green your life. Free organic shakes at EVOS. The earth-friendly franchise offers customers an Earth Day special: a free regular-size, low-fat, organic milkshake. Wed. April 22,, 11 a.m.-10 p.m. 609 S. EarthFest at Eckerd. The EC Earth Society promotes eco-awareness with booths by environmental organizations, organic food and eco-crafts. Wed., April 22, 12:30-2:30 p.m., Hough Quad at Eckerd College, St. Petersburg, free admission.
The Third Annual Crack-Up Cancer Charity Event. Featuring sets of stand-up by local comics Mike McCarthy, Al Romas and Karen Fitzgerald, with proceeds to benefit Cure on Wheels, 1 Voice and Moffitt Cancer Center. Friends of the Festival Film Series: Breakfast With Scot. The nonprofit fundraising group for CLIP, the Tampa International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival, continues its monthly series with Breakfast With Scot, a film about what happens when a successful, discreetly gay couple (played by Tom Cavanagh and Ben Shenkman) take responsibility for their 11-year-old nephew, who happens to be flamboyant and joyously unashamed about his sexuality, more so than his “out” uncles.
