May 22 – Free craft beer tasting at Mazzaro’s Italian Market in St. Petersburg. Craft brew specialists will be sampling beers from upstart sensation Cigar City Brewery, as well as the new Levitation (a sessionable brew) from Stone Brewing, and a selection of beers by Southampton Publick House. Event runs from 1-5pm. Free Southampton glassware with purchase.
May 23 – Spring Beer Fest at Tank’s Tap Room. Free tasting featuring yummy brews from Tampa’s own Cigar City Brewing, Gordon Biersch, Bell’s, and many, many others. They’ll also be unveiling a new food menu, raffling gear for The Little Patrick Foundation, doing giveaways, and hosting games. Live music performances and Romel from the Havana Cigar Factory offering live cigar rolling demonstrations and specials. Festivities kick off at 2pm and continue to close. May 26 – Tapping into Tampa hosted by Datz Delicatessen, featuring beers from Cigar City Brewing. What happens when 6,000 sq feet of culinary bliss taps into 6,000 sq feet of locally brewed delights? Find out for yourself, and meet the brewer while you’re at it. Starts at 6pm in the loft bar. Featured beers – Hunaphus Imperial Stout, Big Sound Scotch Ale, Humidor Series: Cedar Aged Jai Alai India Pale Ale, Espresso Aged Maduro Oatmeal Brown Ale, Bolita Double Nut Brown Ale.
May 27 - Chimay Night at The Brew Garden, Pinellas county’s newest beer (and coffee) destination. Buy a Chimay Cinq Cents (white label Belgian Tripel) draught and keep the gold rimmed glass. While supplies last.
May 28 – Cigar City Brewing Sampling and Food Pairing at The Brass Tap.
This event includes an assortment of Cuban-themed foods especially chosen to pair with and complement CCB beers. There is no charge for food, and draft prices will vary from $4.00-$7.00. The beer lineup — Vanilla-Aged Maduro Oatmeal Brown Ale, Hunahpus Imperial Stout, Big Sound Scotch Ale, Maduro Oatmeal Brown Ale, Jai Alai India Pale Ale. 7pm start time.
May 28 – Thirsty Thursday at Bright House Networks Field. Enjoy a minor league baseball game with 2 for 1 beer, cocktails, and wine. Great prices on a variety of brews; $4.75 will buy 25 ounces of craft or import beer — Abita Purple Haze, Samuel Smith’s Nut Brown, Paulaner Munich, Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA, Anchor Steam, and more. The local awesomeness of Dunedin Brewery can also be obtained; their most excellent Piper’s Pale Ale is available in 16 or 24 ounce draught pours.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, there are a few major events coming up in June.
June 1- Tickets for the Great American Beer Fest go on sale. For devoted brew admirers, GABF is the required beer pilgrimage that one must make– going all the way to Denver to sample a ton of craft beer from all over the country is definitely a spiritual, cultural experience.
June 10 – Left Hand Brewing beer dinner at Datz Delicatessen. This 5 course gourmet beer dinner features a different beer paired with each course, with before and after dinner reception beers. Includes full size pours of perennial and rare brews as well as presentations by a Left Hand representative. Beers include – Snowbound Winter Ale, Warrior IPA, Milk Stout, JuJu Ginger, Rye Bock, Sawtooth Ale, and Smoke Jumper Smoked Imperial Porter. Starts at 6:30. Seating is very limited. June 28 – Stone Brewing beer dinner at The Table Restaurant. This is a 5 course ovo-lacto vegetarian beer dinner that features gourmet dishes prepared with and served with Stone creations. Beers include Pale Ale, Oaked Arrogant Bastard, Smoked Porter, Ruination IPA, and 12th Anniversary Bitter Chocolate Oatmeal Stout. Proceeds benefit Florida Blood Services. Begins at 6pm.
