What’s the buzz on the latest issues in the Green Community? Check out what you may have missed this past week:
Cool-N-Save: An eco-friendly energy saver for your air conditioning unit (Video): Jennifer Meier writes about how the Cool-n-SaveTM system affixes to the top of most home air conditioning units, resulting in a substantial drop in ambient temperature of up to 30 degrees Fahrenheit. The Cool-N-Save(TM) system has also been rated by the US Department of Energy and EPA as an Energy Star Partner.
Signs of hope: are our environmental efforts making a difference?: Linda Taylor shows us an example of how environmental efforts can make a difference, even if they take years to come to fruition.
Beer Review : Reunion ‘08 Red Rye Ale – organic beer for a good cause: CL’s beer maven, Bethany Sherwin, reviews Pete Slosberg and Daniel Del Grande’s awesome rye beer that’s raiseing funds for cancer research.
The Great Pacific Garbage Patch: The world’s largest dump (Video): This huge area of garbage and rebris in the Pacific extends from the coast of California to China, and is bigger than our continent, spreading over millions of square miles, reports Green Editor Katie Machol.
Paris Gardens to be built in memory of Paris Whitehead-Hamilton, recently killed by gun violence: Green Florida’s Paris Gardens are front yard gardens in her memory, and they are planned for homes throughout the neighborhood, making up sustainable landscapes of Florida native plants, fruit and vegetable plants.
Shuffleboard benefit party this Saturday for Bay area community garden: Come out this Saturday to St. Pete and join Green Florida to raise money for community gardens around the Bay Area by playing shuffleboard.
Transitioning Tampa Bay into sustainable communities and creating a new culture: Eric Stewart says we can create a new culture out of the remains of our old one and form together a new vision of Tampa Bay area intent on sustainable progress into the future.
The Florida Aquarium teams up with Mise en Place to introduce a sustainable seafood menu (Pictures): Michelle Schenck how the Florida Aquarium and Mise en Place are partnering up to raise awareness for World Ocean Day by offering a special sustainable seafood menu for two weeks at Mise en Place.
Give us clean renewable energy, not fossil fuels: Rick Kriseman says that most Floridians are clamoring for clean and renewable energy, not more fossil fuels. A green economy will not just wean us off foreign oil, but provide new jobs, ending our overreliance on the tourism and agriculture industries.
