>> According to a new Department of Justice report, the FBI lied to Congress about improperly spying on Greenpeace, PETA and the pacifist Thomas Merton Center in the wake of September 11th to 2006. The DOJ also found that FBI director Robert S. Mueller III misled Congress about investigations like anti-war rally surveillance. What did PETA ever do to the FBI besides throw some paint on fur coats and put naked pictures of Pam Anderson on billboards? Oh yeah, this was pretty criminal. (Yahoo! News)

>> The National Bureau of Economic Research announced yesterday that the recession is over—in fact, it ended last June! YAY! But with unemployment and the housing market, the country could easily lapse into a new recession. Sounds like raise time! (the LA Times)

>> After nearly $10 billion in loss last year, the airline industry is expected to gain profits of a surprising $9 billion, estimates the International Air Transport Association. Charging fat Americans for extra seats must be working wonders. (NPR)

>> North Korea will hold a Workers’ Conference Party a week from today in which Kim Jong-il is expected to announce his youngest son, Kim Jong-un, as his successor. Everyone knows the baby of the family can’t handle making life decisions. Fail. (the Guardian)

>> And finally, good ol’ Jimmy Carter is making the media rounds talking about how great he is. In an NBC interview, he said, “I feel that my role as a former president is probably superior to that of other presidents.” Then on “The Daily Show,” he told Jon Stewart he was not into witchcraft and not against masturbation like Christine O’Connell.
