Until recently there has been relatively little research that combats or supports the common conservative argument that gay couples are unfit foster parents. As reported in a recent New York Times article, the studies on gay parents are finally coming in, proving what half of the nation already suspected: gay parents provide the same quality of upbringing as their straight counterparts, with a few improvements.

Homosexuality has long been difficult to explain in terms of natural selection, as homosexuals reproduce at a lower frequency than their heterosexual counterparts. This would seemingly doom genes related to homosexuality to extinction. However, the fact that homosexuality exists in such a large variety of species suggests that it in some way offers an evolutionary advantage. Otherwise, genes that code for homosexuality would die off (off course this presupposes that you believe homosexuality is determined by nature as opposed to nurture). While homosexuality may not be entirely hereditary, evidence strongly suggests it is largely determined by genetics. Please note that these finding are based on averages, and that a wide variety exists on each side of every claim. Averages simply give us a language for talking about attraction. If you find you don’t match all of these criteria, which is pretty much everyone, rest assured there are many people who will have a thing for your differences.

I consider myself an authority on spotting losers because, well, I used to be one. I only exempt myself now because I’m married. In Fearsome Creatures of Florida, Tampa author John Henry Fleming serves as taxonomist of Florida folklore, producing a wildlife handbook that could have been published by National Enquirer. This book breathes new life into real creatures and popular myths like the Skunk Ape and the Chupacabra. However, the beasts that stay with readers long after finishing the book are Fleming’s creations, like the ghost of the monkeynaut, Gordo, trouncing along the Space Coast in his shiny suit.
From David Hazouri’s sketched illustrations, I expected a Disney World version of swamp monsters. Instead I was confronted by Swiftian creatures that prey on the book’s true monsters: humans. Who hasn’t felt the urge to lessen the overpopulation problem by veering off the road to clip a beached-whale of a tourist waddling across the street followed by a soccer team of unruly chubsters? And maybe it’s just me, but why the hell does the government not offer tax breaks to couples without children instead of breeders?

If you want to reduce the human strain on the earth, reduce the number of people. Instead of donating money to reactionary programs like “feeding the homeless” or “starving children” funds, be proactive by supporting groups like Planned Parenthood that attack the problem at the source.

Alina Percea is the latest in a string of woman who have auctioned off their virginity online to the highest 
bidder. According to the Daily Mail, Percea, and eighteen-year-old Romanian was hoping to raise £50,000 for school expenses, but only got £8,800 (around $13,500 U.S. dollars).

Outrage, a new documentary by Kirby Dick “outs” allegedly closeted republican figures who have anti-gay voting

Rossellini in a penis forest
Isabella Rossellini, famous model, actress, filmmaker, daughter of Ingrid Bergman and Italian director Roberto Rossellini, has embarked on a new project: Green Porno. Rossellini is responsible for a series of two minute films for the Sundance Channel that look at sex through a surrealist’s lens. Four years of wrestling with high school boys in spandex forced me to realize a few things about myself and

A new anti-rape contraceptive could soon hit the shelves of American pharmacies. Rapex is a hard, 
truncated condom with rows of razor sharp hooks on the inside. These hooks latch onto a rapist’s penis upon penetration and must be removed by a doctor. The contraceptive is similar to a tampon in regards to comfort and visibility, as well as the fact that it is inserted and removed with an applicator.
Rapex has sparked some debate among feminists, who see this device as similar to requiring women to wear chastity belts. For me, the difference is that women are given a choice to wear Rapex, whereas chastity belts were often imposed.
The product was originally developed for South African women, as close to two million women are raped in this country a year. Conceivably, Rapex could be used in America by women who are exposed to risky situations for a prolonged period, or when traveling in unfamiliar areas. The product could also reduce the occurrence of date rape, which is one of the most common forms of sexual assault in this country. 20-year old cheerleading coach Carlie Beck, was fired by the San Juan Unified School District Wednesday after pictures surfaced of Beck posing for Playboy’s Cyber Club under the name, Carlie Christine.
After 14 year-old Adelle Geniella was banned from Casa Roble cheerleading tryouts, Geniella’s father showed nude pictures of Beck to the Casa Roble principal.
Adelle, who is president of her student class and was captain of the squad last year, was barred from tryouts because of an unexcused absence.
Adelle’s parents claim they would have alerted the principal even if their daughter made the team, because Beck’s photos set a bad example for the girls.
I seriously doubt Geniella was banned from tryouts because of just one unexcused absence. Could it be that Geniella was an over achiever used to getting what she wanted, whose parents stepped in whenever she didn’t?
Beck regrets losing the job, but not the photo spread. She plans to return to modeling, much to the delight of the thousands of new fans this story will generate.
Maybe it’s just me, but I thought a major component of cheerleading was being pretty, smiling, and stay in shape, which Beck is obviously a professional at.

You may not know the name Marilyn Chambers, but you have undoubtedly benefited from her influence.
Chambers was cast in the ground breaking 70s X-rated film, Behind the Green Door, in which she was shown breaking a racial taboo, by having sex with a black actor named Johnny Keyes. While Disney will never make a movie about how Chambers broke this racial divide, exposing the world to interracial sex probably did as much as Jackie Robinson did for civil rights and equality. Scientists have known for some time that humans are naturally attracted to the smell of someone who has a high degree of genetic variation from their own. This is a natural mechanism for preventing inbreeding. Although we don’t go around sniffing each others’ butts, we do at least subconsciously analyze the smell of a potential mate.

British doctors have developed what is being hailed as “Spray-on Viagra.” Unfortunately for all those men

Every week Apple comes out with new applications that iPhone users hold over the heads of the

These features were cool, but they were little more than toys. However, Apple is increasingly coming out with applications that are actually useful. While I wouldn’t necessarily use the new Grindr application, which is geared towards locating gay and bigay men in the area, I know I’m going to miss out on the next wave of futuristic jedi-phone tricks: the breathalyzer, lie detector, x-ray vision, orgasm ray, pick-up-line generator… basically all the things that can turn a technosavy metro sexual into a nerdy superhero.
