Anime conventions and random hand jobs

Posted by Camile on Aug. 5, 2009, at 11:30 pm

There are a lot of anime fans who’d prefer to never acknowledge that some of us get into the kind of antics stereotypically associated with wild frat parties or douche bags. Luckily for CL readers, I’m not that kind of anime fan. Just about all of my convention stories feature sex, booze, trips to adult stores, and hotel pools. At the most recent convention, a friend asked why I never wrote about more of our antics. Answer: I couldn’t decide which story to share. Then the suggestions began. One story stood out mostly because people who weren’t even there know about it. Ladies and Gents, I give you the Tale of the Creepy Exhibitionist.

Disclaimer: Again, not all anime, gamer, comic book, fantasy, horror, or sci-fi fans are horny, raunchy geeks who attend conventions in the hopes of getting their freak on. I just happen to know some interesting people. Read the rest of this entry »

Rules of engagement for polyamory relationships

Posted by Camile on Apr. 30, 2009, at 11:23 pm

Some people think it’s impossible to cheat in a polyamory relationship, but it doesn’t work that way. The following are four rules that my boyfriend, The Puppy, and I have:

1) No starting a new relationship without telling your partner.

Deciding to have an open, poly, or otherwise non-monogamous relationship doesn’t automatically give you the green light to screw anything that catches your  fancy. For one thing, you may be thinking that you’re fine  with a V (Sally and Susan are dating Timmy, but not each  other) or a triad (Susan, Sally, and Timmy date each other) relationship. Your partner may want a closed triad (Susan, Sally, and Timmy date only each other- also a form of poly fidelity). Or maybe you were expecting to have a hierarchical relationship where your starting partner would be your primary, while any new person would be secondary. Little things like this should be talked over before either party brings home someone new. Even if the talk is skipped, your starting partner should be aware that you have added someone new to the relationship. Bottom line: If you’re dating someone behind your partner(s)’s back, it is cheating. No if, ands, or hoo-haws about it. Read the rest of this entry »

Gamer widow? not on my watch

Posted by Camile on Apr. 24, 2009, at 2:00 am

The folks at Pegasus Publishing know what I'm talking about

The folks at Pegasus Publishing know the deal

It’s late when The Puppy, my live-in boyfriend, gets home. I haven’t seen him since I kissed him good-bye at 8:30 this morning. He takes off his shoes and gives me a kiss. If I’ve eaten already, I tell him where dinner is and ask him to put away the leftovers. After dinner, he hops onto Everquest 2 (aka Evercrack). I start shutting things down around 11 at the latest. I ask him what his weekend schedule is looking like as I pull my shirt over my head.

“Hold on, my girlfriend is talking to me,” he says to his friends online. Now that I have his attention he asks me to repeat the question. He does not look up as he answers. His attention is fixed on making sure his character is casting spells. I continue undressing. Naked, I bend over to pick up my discarded clothing. As I stand, I hear cursing from behind me:

“No! Noooo! Fuck! Fucking A!” I turn to find The Puppy glaring at the monitor. “My character was nearly killed. Thanks, Camile.” Read the rest of this entry »

Hentai parties: not for the weak of heart

Posted by Camile on Apr. 15, 2009, at 9:32 pm

It’s Friday night. I’m checking on the contents of a penis-shaped ice mold that I bought at The Todd. The jello shot is shaping up nicely.

I’m still naked and wet from my shower when someone pounds on the door. Bastards are early. My phone rings. The knocking becomes louder. I figure I’ll have more peace if I let them in than if I make them wait until I get dressed. My co-host, Yaoi (pronounced Yow-ee) Lover, asks if everyone was supposed to show up naked or if I was pulling home owner’s privilege. Her fiancé adds that he approves if I am. Middle finger erect, I ask them to check on the stuff in the freezer. I need to get dressed before the rest of the lechers arrive for the hentai viewing party. Read the rest of this entry »

Game review: Afro Samurai

Posted by Krystalle Voecks on Feb. 23, 2009, at 11:03 am

Based on the first season of the Spike TV modern ‘anime’ series (which is in turn based on the manga) by the same name, Afro Samurai has just about everything you would expect from something with Samuel L. Jackson’s name on it. There’s violence; blood; (cartoon) gore; revenge; and half-naked women. Just add in the word ‘fuck’ liberally, stir to taste, and you get the general idea. That’s okay, because the core demographic this game (and indeed the Spike TV channel itself) is geared towards will likely eat this game up with a spoon.

With a cel-shaded style that is becoming more and more common in games these days, the look of Afro Samurai doesn’t disappoint. Backgrounds are lush in the earlier levels, becoming starker as Afro makes his way through the dark revenge story-line. The voice acting by Samuel L. Jackson, and soundtrack partly performed by RZA (the rest is “inspired by”) is nothing short of awesome. I definitely couldn’t say playing wasn’t a hell of a lot of fun – at first.

Free films from around the world! Does it get better than that?

Posted by Nathan Andersen on Feb. 4, 2009, at 6:02 pm

Every year for the past several, Eckerd College’s “International Cinema” series has been offering up exciting and innovative films from around the world to anyone who wants to show up, most Fridays (7pm) during the regular school year.

Mind Game (plays THIS Friday, Feb. 6, 7pm)

Mind Game (plays THIS Friday, Feb. 6, 7pm)

Maybe this is shameless self-promotion, since I run the program, but it is free and open to the public and there are usually some empty seats in the Miller Auditorium that are nearly as comfortable as the couch you’ll need to vacate in order to make it down to south Saint Pete and check out what we have to offer. For the past few weeks, my students and I have been bragging about the great time we were having in Park City at the Sundance Film Festival, so now we’re giving you a chance to see some of the cool things that tend not to play in the local multiplexes. Nearly everything we screen is from a 35mm print (the real thing!), and our theater is very nice – no sticky floors and loud teenagers (unobnoxious teens are of course welcome)!

This week’s film (Fri, Feb. 6, 7pm) is a strange one: a mind-bending and innovative Japanese animation focusing on Nishi, a loser with a crush on his childhood girlfriend, on a psychedelic journey to heaven and back, chased by Yakuza. Mind Game is definitely not for children! Read the rest of this entry »
