Is pretty better for love and life?

Posted by Rebecca Ammon on Nov. 22, 2009, at 6:49 pm

ACP20390-ASwingers are very superficial people.  This statement will probably have some swingers coming out swinging, but in all honesty you are shopping for a sex partner based on looks.  Attractiveness is very important to swingers.  If you’re average looking you might label yourself as ‘NOT Ken and Barbie’ in your online profile, but this doesn’t mean you want someone who looks like a monster. Looks win out.  Attractive people attract other good looking people.  This doesn’t mean that only the attractive find love, but the good looking garner more glances and gawks; thus potentially leading to meeting more mates.

Getting the attention of other people based on beauty isn’t limited to just sex and love. Some are able to get ahead in the job market, professional sports, and of course blogging purely because they are attractive. Science seems to agree with this. According to Science in Society, good looking people are more likely to win sporting events. Science News states that physical attraction also impacts income positively. The ugly truth: the science of what men find attractive

Posted by Shawn Alff on Oct. 28, 2009, at 5:31 am

beauty pageantA recent article, “How Men Select Women,” sums up the science of what men look for in female mates. I’ve synthesized the information down to a blog-sized bite. Please note that these finding are based on averages, and that a wide variety exists on each side of every claim. Averages simply give us a language for talking about attraction. If you find you don’t match all of these criteria, which is pretty much everyone, rest assured there are many people who will have a thing for your differences.

High reproductive value: Men are attracted to younger women who have more fertile years ahead of them, or a high “reproductive value.” Read the rest of this entry »

How do relationships work when you are swinging and friends?

Posted by Rebecca Ammon on Jun. 19, 2009, at 12:30 pm

I don’t totally agree with the notion that most swingers are in the lifestyle primarily for friendship; maybe “friends with benefits” is a better description. Being a swinger is about sex, and if the friendship part follows its all the better. According to dictionary.com, the term swinger is defined as:

1. a person who indulges in promiscuous sex
2. a person who engages in the exchanging of spouses for sexual activities

How do relationships work when you are swinging and friends? Sometimes this type of relationship is great, and other times it can be quite awkward. I have several friends who are swinger – some I have had sex with, and some I have not. The difficulty comes when sex has occurred and it wasn’t any good or the attraction no longer exists.

Reasons why you didn’t get that second date: rules to date (or not) by

Posted by Camile on Jun. 13, 2009, at 8:00 am

You thought the first date went off well, but for some reason you are now suffering “Mr. Telephone Man” syndrome.

Below are ten reasons (five general, and five of my own) that might explain why you are striking out. Note: These are meant to apply to men and women because we’re all guilty of striking out.

5) You’re a poser and it shows.
Pretending to like something in order to hook up with someone almost never works. Somewhere in the conversation, you will tell that jazz lover you’ve been hitting up, how much you love Cab Calloways’s sax playing. The other person will respond by either rolling their eyes and walking away or outright calling you a lying prat. Not to mention, pretending to like something when you actually hate it means you will be spending hours doing something you dislike. Better to be up front about not liking whatever it is that s/he is into and focus on what you are into. If it turns out that the attraction does not go beyond physical, you have two options: a) work with it, or, b) move on.

Moral: Be yourself and find someone who likes you as a person. Read the rest of this entry »
