Is pretty better for love and life?

Posted by Rebecca Ammon on Nov. 22, 2009, at 6:49 pm

ACP20390-ASwingers are very superficial people.  This statement will probably have some swingers coming out swinging, but in all honesty you are shopping for a sex partner based on looks.  Attractiveness is very important to swingers.  If you’re average looking you might label yourself as ‘NOT Ken and Barbie’ in your online profile, but this doesn’t mean you want someone who looks like a monster. Looks win out.  Attractive people attract other good looking people.  This doesn’t mean that only the attractive find love, but the good looking garner more glances and gawks; thus potentially leading to meeting more mates.

Getting the attention of other people based on beauty isn’t limited to just sex and love. Some are able to get ahead in the job market, professional sports, and of course blogging purely because they are attractive. Science seems to agree with this. According to Science in Society, good looking people are more likely to win sporting events. Science News states that physical attraction also impacts income positively. Toxic beauty: The dangerous truth about the cosmetics industry

Posted by lindataylor on Oct. 7, 2009, at 11:33 am

toxic_makeupThe $500 billion beauty industry is embraces a message that tells women they must correct, conceal and camouflage. Peel away the glitz and glamour, says Stacy Malkan, co-founder of the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics and author of Not Just a Pretty Face: The Ugly Side of the Beauty Industry, and you’ll expose the toxic truths lurking beneath the beauty industry’s seedy underbelly. Malkan shares five of the biggies that the major beauty purveyors would rather keep under wraps.

1. Many skincare products contain chemicals toxic to the skin

“A mind-boggling array of products contain chemicals that sensitize skin and trigger skin problems such as rashes, redness, acne, and other symptoms of contact dermatitis”, says Malkan, who notes that doctors often misdiagnose these problems as eczema and prescribe drugs such as steroids or immunosuppressants. Then, of course, there are the toxic chemicals that are known or suspected causes of long-term health effects such as asthma, infertility, learning disabilities, and cancer—ingredients that companies persist in including despite the fact that they “already know how to make great products without these hazardous chemicals,” she says.

2. Companies that donate to breast cancer research still use carcinogens in their products

Skincare products aren’t always as “natural” as they claim

Posted by Heidi Lux on Apr. 17, 2009, at 6:30 am

“Ugh, my cuticles are dry!” my Canadian pipefitter boyfriend said over the phone, 3,000 miles away. “I think I need to moisturize.” He has the most rugged job out of anyone I know, and yet he moisturizes daily. Aveeno, he swears by it.

“Now that you’re moisturizing, it makes me want to moisturize,” I said, not wanting to be out girled by someone who pounds steel together in the Canadian cold all day, as I reached for my Burt’s Bees Baby Bee Buttermilk Lotion. “Mine’s all natural.” Read the rest of this entry »

Fusionistas podcast#2: Save the coral reefs, get a tan

Posted by Aleka Phoenix on Mar. 16, 2009, at 7:14 am

Did you know the coral reefs are being suffocated by tourists’ sunscreen? Going to the tanning bed sets up a controlled environment so you can regulate your light absorption and then have a base tan that will help you avoid sunburn and use less sunscreen, therefore preserving the coral reefs and other oceanic life affected by multitudes of tourist sunscreen!

New (and Unusual Flavor) Pairings
Toasted sesame and rootbeer? Tarragon and beetroot? According to the spice mogul McCormick, these are just some of the flavor combinations slated to be “hot” this year.
