Diary of the Newly Employed Housewife: Change is good

Posted by Michelle Hurd on Mar. 10, 2010, at 1:11 pm

duh_wellrounded copyWell, it seems 2010 has been a year of change for me so far, and it is a good thing. New job, new perspective, new adventures. I managed to survive my first week back to work, and as sick and crazy as I know it sounds I’m looking forward to going back. I was definitely dragging butt near the end of the week; my body is not quite used to getting up at the crack of dawn and being alert and attentive all day, but I will get used to it. Everyone there is nice, they all seem to really enjoy their job and love working for the company. I feel very blessed. Unbelievably enough, someone there recognized me from the blog, so I had to explain it to my new co-workers, and one of them said, “Oh great, now we will all end up in her blog.” I explained that if they did end up in here they should consider it a form of flattery, and I reassured them that I do at least change all the names. Dream Momma says go from schoolgirl to femme fatale

Posted by Dream Momma on Oct. 5, 2009, at 11:49 am

blackpink“Dear Dream Momma, I have a big crush on this guy I know. In my dream last night he said hi and seemed really happy to see me and his face and eyes glowed with this happy warmth. I said hi and I could feel inside I was screaming with excitement but wanted to play it cool. We went to this wooded picnic table and sat down on the same seat. I noticed I was a little close to him so I scooted over some closer to the edge on the left but he scooted closer to me. He asked me how I was and I could feel myself blush. I said I was okay and asked him. He said how he was doing okay but he felt bad cause he took some time off of college because his wife and daughter were very sick and he wanted to take care of them and spend time with them. I remember feeling like I was going to cry and I could feel all his love and concern for the wife and daughter and I remember seeing a gold wedding ring on his finger. The weird thing is in real life he’s single and he has a few degrees from university and has a well established job he’s been working at for a few years now. Why is he married in the dream?”

The short answer is, because he is married. Married to something else, and I suspect it’s Read the rest of this entry »

The job hunt is the same as searching for Mr. Right

Posted by Brook Rushing on Jul. 30, 2009, at 10:30 pm

So it has been a few years since I’ve played the dating game… but I distinctly remember it… checking my phone for missed calls, checking my phone to make sure it was working…. Yes, occasionally I was THAT girl… looking forward to Friday for that first date, wondering where it would lead. And I remember the disappointment I felt after the date when I realized he wasn’t The ONE. Why do I bring this up? Certainly, I’m not reentering the world of dating…THANK GOD!!

Well, it dawned on me yesterday, as I checked my email for the 127th time, that finding a job is very similar to finding a mate. Read the rest of this entry »

H1N1? Swine flu? Is the media’s new menace keeping you from squealing in the bedroom? (Poll)

Posted by Rabid Nick Refer on May. 6, 2009, at 8:40 pm

A "Mexican" Kiss

A "Mexican Kiss"

The media is having a field day hypnotizing Americans with fear over the impending Porkacolypse, but is this newest incarnation of doomsday  actually keeping us from getting laid?

I realize everyone is tired of the Swine Flu. All my friends roll their eyes at its mere mention. I get it. But trends around my college campus are beginning to shift, and I’m starting to worry. I mean the slutty chicks are still willing to lay any wookie, but the marginally wild women who drink apple martinis on barstools while their thongs creep out the top of their business skirts are becoming even more inaccessible. They are sitting on barstools with their legs crossed, like ladies for God’s sake. My boy Shawn who NEVER has a problem landing a lady had two drinks he bought for prospective partners sent back with a “No thanks.” The girls are turning down free booze now? He’s lucky I like girly drinks.

Ecological Intelligence: looking at the impacts of what we buy

Posted by sharonjoykleitsch on May. 1, 2009, at 4:33 pm

Looking for a Green Job, or better yet a Green Career? Check out Daniel Goleman’s (New York Times science writer who authored and coined Emotional Intelligence) new book, Ecological Intelligence: How Knowing the Hidden Impacts of What We Buy Changes Everything. Since the book was just published, it may not have made it to your local library. Consider the ecological choice in having it in your hands next week by ordering it from Amazon.com.

To save trees and green cash, consider renting the book from BookSwim for $9.95 a month.  Read the rest of this entry »
