Kevin’s Kreepy Korner: The Halloween edition

Posted by Kevin Hopp on Oct. 30, 2009, at 1:45 pm

Halloween_eyes

Welcome to a very special, spook-tacular edition of Kevin’s Korner. This week, as we get our costumes ready, our tricks perfected and our tolerance for candy pushed to its peak. Plus, I have some great movie news, including scary tale involving a Spider-Man villain, the newest film from the Broken Lizard crew, and so much more. So, grab some candy corn and read on. And have a great (and safe) Halloween!

Sex bites: Interracial Marriage, cheeseburgers, Meghan McCain, Oprah, Vampires. . .

Posted by W.J. L'amour on Oct. 19, 2009, at 12:16 am

05_Flatbed_2 - OCTOBERYour week in sex and love news. No mention of balloon boy (other than this one). Pinky swear.

The Big O says ‘hell no’ to mile high club: Earlier this week, Oprah Winfrey’s former flight attendant claimed that she was wrongfully fired after being accused of having sex during a flight in June. The attendant, Corrine Gehrls, has sued Harpo, as well as former co-worker Myron Gooch and Winfrey’s goddaughter, Kirby Bumpus, for false and defamatory accusations that led to her dismissal.

Esquire discovers why vampires are so damn sexy trendy: On Tuesday, Esquire claimed that the reason that young straight American women have become obsessed with vampires is because they secretly want to have sex with gay men. Read the rest of this entry »

The hostile health-care debate and the difficulties of keeping an open mind

There is an excellent CNN commentary, written by Rudy Ruiz, called “Open your minds, America.” The article comments on the intolerant and hostile tone in our debate over health care. Ruiz argues that our inability to form rational dialogue is a symptom of a larger problem — “A contagious culture of close-mindedness threatens to suffocate our progress as a society”

“Increasingly, the willingness to change one’s position on political issues has been misread as a mark of weakness rather than product of attentive listening and careful deliberation.”

How has this happened?  The ability to change our opinions in the face of new information is actually a sign of intelligence, yet our culture seems to disparage such self-reflection.

Obama at the Kennedy funeral: Paying tribute, not playing politics

Posted by David Warner on Aug. 29, 2009, at 1:34 pm

The pundits are blabbing now on CNN about whether liberals will be “disappointed” that Obama didn’t take on healthcare or other issues in his speech at the Ted Kennedy funeral. No doubt the right has found many ways to condemn not only the speech but the entire funeral by now. Let them all blather: This was a fine, deserved tribute to a flawed but ultimately admirable man. Sex Bites update: no sex in the Prime Minister’s room

Posted by W.J. L'amour on May. 17, 2009, at 11:05 am

Two Sex Bites ago, I wrote about the sex ban in Kenya. CNN reports that a Kenyan man, James Kimondo, has sued women activists who called for the week-long sex ban to protest the unstable coalition government.

Kimondo filed a lawsuit against the G-10, an umbrella group of women activists, claiming the sex ban affected his marriage, and led to his stress, mental anguish, backaches and lack of sleep. Read the rest of this entry »

TIME names Van Jones among the top 100 on planet earth

Posted by sharonjoykleitsch on May. 5, 2009, at 1:00 pm

Van Jones has been selected by TIME magazine as one the 100 people influencing the world today. Here’s what Leonardo DiCaprio has to say about him.

Recently, Larry King asked Van during his CNN interview if he liked being called Obama’s new “green czar”. Van quickly dismissed the term saying, “I don’t like it. I call myself the green jobs handy man. They chop the heads off czars. My job is to help Barack Obama get his idea from signing a signing ceremony where he signs a bill to ordinary Americans signing back paychecks.”  Read the rest of this entry »

She sent a stripper as a stand-in to her high school reunion

Posted by David Warner on Apr. 24, 2009, at 7:15 pm

Comedy writer Andrea Walker didn’t want to go to her high school reunion. So she sent a stripper instead — with hidden cameras and mics. See it on CNN before Andrea turns it into a screenplay deal.

The Short List: Caroline Kennedy withdraws

Posted by Joe Bardi on Jan. 22, 2009, at 6:00 am

Obama’s first day in office was a success. Business was done. Executive Orders were released. A BS church ceremony was attended. I didn’t think about Bush all day. Damn, now I ruined it.

  • Caroline Kennedy pulls out of the race to be appointed to Hillary’s old Senate seat.
  • Barack Obama is sworn in … again. (Just to be safe.)

The Short List: CNN has holograms!

Posted by Joe Bardi on Nov. 6, 2008, at 5:50 am

CNN went all Star Wars on viewers election night with Princess Leia stand-in Jessica Yellin reporting via hologram. Help us Barack Obama, you’re our only hope!

  • Yes, Sarah Palin went rogue on John McCain.
  • Come on Hillsborough, this is ridiculous.
  • The software that screwed Hillsborough voting already screwed three other FLA counties.
  • Election day was ugly for supporters of gay marriage.
  • Next move in the modern civil rights battle: Lawsuits.
  • It’s all over but the recounting.
  • What’s up in North Carolina and Missouri?
  • 4 red FLA counties gave Obama his victory.
  • Youth vote turned out for Obama.
  • “Why Ralph Nader is an asshole.”
  • Newsweek keeps things upbeat with “horror stories” from previous presidential transitions.
  • “Nation Finally Shitty Enough To Make Social Progress.”
  • R.I.P. Michael Crichton.
  • You heard the one about the woman who ran a mile with a fox chewing on her arm?
