Dream of Phelps and Obama

Posted by Dream Momma on Nov. 10, 2009, at 2:45 pm

GQMEN-2“Dream Momma, One morning I had a dream about Phelps in the pool with Obama and they were eating smoked turkey.” (sic)

Dream Momma understands why they were together in a pool “swimming” in the limelight. They have a lot on common.

For example, in no particular order:

They are both winners.

They broke records.

They are both known to be very focused.

They are top competitors.

Both wrote memoirs.

They were two of GQ’s Men of the Year and graced the GQ magazine cover together (along with Jon Hamm and DiCaprio).

Both came from broken homes and were raised by single moms.

They were selected by Barbara Walters as two of the top ten most fascinating individuals in 2008.

It was rumored that Phelps would be Obama’s running mate.

Almost hosted SNL together (Obama had to cancel because of Hurricane Ike (guest appearance).

They are both described as “incredibly invested” in the people they care about.

Dream Momma suspects that once one gets the full glare of the media, one must eat a lot of smoked turkey. Read the rest of this entry »

Dreaming of an unknown guy

Posted by Dream Momma on Oct. 29, 2009, at 2:45 pm

LazyStudent“Dream Momma, I’m a senior at a college in Tampa. We check out your blog once in a while so I thought I would write. In my dream I was taking a really hard test but i showed up late. No one seemed to care. Just about everyone was finished and walking out of this very casual class room which reminded me more of a lounge then anything. I hadn’t even started this huge booklet which contained all the tests to all my classes. All of a sudden this unknown guy shows up and starts spitting out the answers which I didn’t want to get in trouble for listening to. Then it faded out…” (sic)

This dream symbolizes both your casual attitude and your confidence about your education. Dream Momma deduces that you are Read the rest of this entry »

Who would you screw poll: Marisa Miller or Gisele Bundchen; Tyson Beckford or Wentworth Miller

Posted by Emmalee on Jul. 13, 2009, at 9:06 pm

The well-known Victoria’s Secret model, Marisa Miller stripped down in the August 2009 issue of GQ magazine while her colleague Gisele Bundchen is making news in her recent marriage to NFL Patriots quarterback, Tom Brady. The sexy Victoria’s Secret vixens make for a solid competition of Who Would You Screw?

Known for his chiseled abs and mesmerizing eyes, Tyson Beckford has strutted the runway for Ralph Lauren and has appeared on the cover, and in spreads, of GQ, Vogue and Essence magazine. His sex appeal puts him on my top ten list of hot models. Wentworth Miller, on the other hand, has made the transition from model to actor. Known for his role on Prison Break, Miller has been the face of some ingenious Gap ads and has been seen on the covers of Details and GQ. His green eyes and rock hard body makes for a great competitor of Who Would You Screw?

‘The Bachelorette’ has returned, looking for love, but shouldn’t she be looking for some damn good sex? (video)

Posted by Rabid Nick Refer on May. 20, 2009, at 9:42 am

If you are anything like the master of sexual disaster, Rabid Nick, your boob tube was on 24 watching Jack Bauer kick ass last night.  However, undoubtedly many of you were watching terror threats of a different variety: the premiere of the latest season of The Bachelorette. Having been jilted on a previous season of The Bachelor, Jillian Harris has not given up on finding her knight in prime time television armor.  Her claim to fame is that she can figure out a man simply by analyzing the toppings he puts on his hot dogs.  Wow.  Don’t worry, if you watched, none of us will judge you for being vapid.

A Heathen’s Paradise: an analysis of power, desire, and sex in A Streetcar Named Desire

Posted by Shawn Alff on May. 17, 2009, at 3:46 pm

Sex and desire are ever-present forces in human conflict. However, not until Tennessee Williams‘ A Streetcar Named Desire premiered in 1947 had the physical act of sex been so explicitly depicted on stage as a source of power and dominance. In Streetcar, the New Orleans street, Elysian Fields, is an urban jungle where the laws of nature are the abiding rules of engagement. As in the wild, sex and violence are intimately connected. Intercourse is a product of aggressive competition, dominance, and submission rather than romance. Although Williams repeatedly claimed that this work warned against a world where brutes were allowed to rule, at the play’s end, the dominating and sexually imposing Stanley conquers Blanche, and her illusions of love. Streetcar forces modern audiences to decide if society should not tolerate such carnal behavior, or if there is some logic in following one’s desires down the darker avenues of human experience. FDA issues voluntary recall for Hydroxycut due to it causing liver damage

Posted by Kevin O'Dunn on May. 5, 2009, at 6:30 am

Hydroxycut makes the skin seem tighter against the muscle

The Canadian manufactured performance enhancement diet supplement Hydroxycut, used for weight loss and body building, has been pulled from the market in a voluntary recall at the request of the US Food and Drug Administration.

This is technically not a drug and is advertised as a “Diet Supplement”. The distress to the liver caused by this supplement has caused 23 reports of liver problems including the death due to liver failure a 17 year old boy. In at least one case a person survived their trouble by receiving a liver transplant. Do it this weekend: Tampa culinary school BBQ cook-off competition

Posted by Katie M. on Apr. 15, 2009, at 2:12 pm

This Saturday, April 18th, some of the C.O.O.K.S. Club at the Art Institute of Tampa will be hosting a BBQ cook-off and competition. Culinary students will be competing to see whose barbecued protein of choice will reign supreme, after being judged by some “professionals” and the public.

The event will be from 11 a.m.- 3p.m. at the Art Institute of Tampa (4401 N. Himes Ave., Tampa; on the northeast corner of Himes Ave. and MLK, just north of Raymond James stadium). The judging will be held in the dining lab on the second floor ($1 for each entry sampled) and there will be a smoker chock full of burgers and dogs for sale outside on the back patio. Judging will end by 1:30 so get there before it runs out.

The money earned from the competition will go to the Chef and Child Foundation. Come out to support these future chefs and culinarians and enjoy some barbecue, too!

Highlights from the Art Institute of Tampa’s “Top Chef” competition

Posted by Katie M. on Dec. 19, 2008, at 2:50 pm

"Floribbean" Croquembouche

What do you get when you agree to judge a “Top Chef”-style showdown between sixteen culinary students?  Answer: a whole array of interesting dishes, and a major food coma.

This past Tuesday and Wednesday, I was the guest judge for the students running The Tutored Chef*- a restaurant that is open to the public and operated by culinary students at the Art Institute of Tampa.  I was asked to return to my alma mater to assist in judging the class’ final practical exams because I won this “competition” two quarters ago, and, of course, I enthusiastically agreed to participate.  Can you say: free food?  And having the chance to adjudicate my former classmates was a bonus incentive.

The gist of the competition: each student had to complete two courses (an entree with a sauce, a starch and vegetable, and a dessert) from items provided by the instructors.  That meant a sixteen course meal both days for us judges.  (I was very full, to say the least.)  We would then choose one winner for each entree categories, which would then be featured on the restaurant’s menu next quarter.
