Game review: Wii Sports Resort, or what your Wii was made for

Posted by Rick Dakan on Aug. 24, 2009, at 10:44 am

Back before it was the Wii, Nintendo had code-named its new console The Revolution, and when the best selling console of this generation did come out a few years back, its motion controlled game play was indeed revolutionary. Like so many revolutions, it didn’t quite live up to its original promise.

Take the original Wii Sports, which came bundled with the system and offered a whole new experience – tennis, golf, baseball, bowling, and boxing that all felt somewhat, or even a lot like the real thing. You couldn’t help but smile a big, delighted grin the first time you tried it. But then came almost everything else for the damn Wii. Shovels full of middling to poor games, just a few bright gems (mostly from Nintendo) trying to shine from the towering dung heap of third-party cash-ins and motion-gimmick nonsense. My Wii, like that of many gamers, sat lonely and empty and un-played.

But those big, goofy grins are back baby! Read the rest of this entry »

FDA issues voluntary recall for Hydroxycut due to it causing liver damage

Posted by Kevin O'Dunn on May. 5, 2009, at 6:30 am

Hydroxycut makes the skin seem tighter against the muscle

The Canadian manufactured performance enhancement diet supplement Hydroxycut, used for weight loss and body building, has been pulled from the market in a voluntary recall at the request of the US Food and Drug Administration.

This is technically not a drug and is advertised as a “Diet Supplement”. The distress to the liver caused by this supplement has caused 23 reports of liver problems including the death due to liver failure a 17 year old boy. In at least one case a person survived their trouble by receiving a liver transplant. Monday’s WTF: Blagojevich considered Oprah for senate seat

Posted by Stephen Hammill on Jan. 26, 2009, at 8:47 am

Governor Rod Blagojevich hits the televisions this week in his “shock and awe” media blitz in which is says stuff crazy enough to make us all forget about his impeachment trial.

Today he reveals he considered naming Oprah Winfrey to the U.S. Senate, telling “Good Morning America” the idea of nominating the talk show host came to him as he explored potential candidates for the job that federal prosecutors allege he tried to sell to the highest bidder.

“She seemed to be someone who would help Barack Obama in a significant way become president,” he said. “She was obviously someone with a much broader bully pulpit than other senators.”

The governor worried, though, that the appointment of Winfrey might come across as a gimmick and that the talk show host was unlikely to accept.
