Book Review: Fearsome Creatures of Florida

Posted by Shawn Alff on Aug. 27, 2009, at 10:11 am

In Fearsome Creatures of Florida, Tampa author John Henry Fleming serves as taxonomist of Florida folklore, producing a wildlife handbook that could have been published by National Enquirer. This book breathes new life into real creatures and popular myths like the Skunk Ape and the Chupacabra. However, the beasts that stay with readers long after finishing the book are Fleming’s creations, like the ghost of the monkeynaut, Gordo, trouncing along the Space Coast in his shiny suit.

From David Hazouri’s sketched illustrations, I expected a Disney World version of swamp monsters. Instead I was confronted by Swiftian creatures that prey on the book’s true monsters: humans. These unnamed locals and tourists are lazy drunks more concerned with stocking their liquor cabinets than evacuating from a hurricane. Read the rest of this entry »

Tell your wife to stop sexting me

Posted by Rabid Nick Refer on Jul. 29, 2009, at 10:53 am

Are you a dude?  Are you a married dude?  Then pay attention. For far too long you’ve let your wife, your life partner, your everything, sit alone on the sidelines. Well it’s time to wake your ass up and get your head back in the game–the game of being in a good relationship. You can start by telling your wife to stop sending me naked pictures of herself.

Gay magic? Is the new Harry Potter film littered with homosexual undertones?

Posted by Rabid Nick Refer on Jul. 19, 2009, at 10:09 am

The most popular film series since Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince is subject to controversy even where none exists. Some religious groups see the film as corrupting the morals of children by depicting magic, which is the enterprise of devil. Others believe the series contains a hidden gay agenda.  Are homophobes just desperate for a new children’s movie to attack,  or does the world’s most popular wizard enjoy both being naked with horses and wand waggling boys?

Movie Review: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Strikes Back

Posted by Kevin Hopp on Jul. 14, 2009, at 7:48 am

Finally, Empire Strikes Back has come to Harry Potter, in every way imaginable. Follow me back to a world of witches, wizards and teenage hormones and find out if the latest installment of Harry Potter is worth comparing to the greatest Star Wars movie of all time, or at least if it’s worth the price of a ticket. This week @ the movies: Brüno and I Love You, Beth Cooper

Posted by Joe Bardi on Jul. 10, 2009, at 2:30 pm

[Ed. note: Each week I'll be breaking down the big summer blockbuster movie releases. If you're curious about what's coming out in future weeks, be sure to check out the Summer Movie Preview. For more info on this week's releases, please check out my full length review of Brüno or visit our movie site for all things film-related.]

FRIDAY, JULY 10TH
Box office gold: Brüno
Worth seeing? For his last big-screen outing, 2006’s Borat, British comedian Sacha Baron Cohen laid waste to George W. Bush’s America — hilariously ruining rodeos, business conferences and a Pam Anderson book signing in the process. Cohen has gone back to the Ali G Show wellspring from which Borat emerged to find his next character, flaming gay Austrian fashionista Brüno. Early buzz has Cohen replicating his Borat schtick, sending Brüno to interact with unsuspecting bystanders who aren’t in on the joke. This time around, that means talking Sex and the City and tent-snuggling with homophobic rednecks, crashing the catwalk at actual runway shows and even dropping trou in front of Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul. If it’s all half as funny as Borat, the producers will laugh all the way to the bank.
Counter-programming: Mountains of man-ass and potty jokes a turn off? Instead, see I Love You, Beth Cooper. The latest from director Chris Columbus (The first few Harry Potter flicks), Cooper stars Paul Rust as a nerdy kid who declares his love for the hottest girl in school (Hayden Panettiere) during his valedictory speech.  The speech works, and hottie Beth soon decides to show her dorky suitor the night of his life. Ah, fantasy.

Previews for both films after the jump …

Harry Potter out next Wednesday: Daniel Radcliffe’s naked photos out now (NSFW)

Daniel Radcliffe in Equus

Harry Potter  & the Half Blood Prince is coming out Wednesday July 15, and there’s no better time to resurface these photos of a very naked, very toned, very sexy Daniel Radcliffe.   I know I’ll be watching this 6th installment of the Harry Potter series in a highly aroused state that I haven’t experienced in any of the previous movies.

(Full frontal pics below, NSFW)
