The research is in: gay parents know how to raise children

Posted by Shawn Alff on Nov. 10, 2009, at 1:32 pm

gay dads-ccUntil recently there has been relatively little research that combats or supports the common conservative argument that gay couples are unfit foster parents. As reported in a recent New York Times article, the studies on gay parents are finally coming in, proving what half of the nation already suspected: gay parents provide the same quality of upbringing as their straight counterparts, with a few improvements.

The findings are reported in Abbie E. Goldberg’s new book, Lesbian and Gay Parents and Their Children, which analysis more than 100 academic studies on the subject. Read the rest of this entry »

Sex stars at the National Equality March on Washington (video)

Posted by W.J. L'amour on Oct. 13, 2009, at 2:03 pm

2009100144Sex and the City star Cynthia Nixon and pop music sex symbol Lady Gaga, among countless others, addressed the National Equality March on Washington yesterday.

Thousands of supporters descended on the Washington Mall on Sunday, October 11, 2009 in the largest gay rights rally in nearly a decade.

The rally called upon President Obama to ensure equal protection for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people in all matters governed by civil law in all 50 states. Read the rest of this entry »

Marvel’s X-Men square off against allegorical Proposition 8

Posted by Ryan Jent on Sep. 22, 2009, at 10:45 am

Original5Marvel Comics has always been known for its human touch – for its focus on continuity before capes. Spider-Man wasn’t born of Krypton, but Queens: your average boy next door. The Fantastic Four were fantastic, yes, but a family first. Before getting his act together, Tony Stark, Iron Man, drank more than my dad on a Monday. They’re human.

It’s that touch that has drawn readers (and conglomerates) to their pages for 70 years. Man before Super, Woman before Wonder.

In 1963, the X-Men blasted, flew, bounced and ice-slid into the comics world as character first – but also social commentary.

Before this, superheroes were always different – “special” – but with few exceptions, praised for it. Any minority could enjoy them next to the majority, perhaps identifying with their differences: but what about their acceptance? Could they identify with that?

Spider-Man was often looked down upon by the city he protected, but his powers were the result of circumstance. Bruce Wayne was feared for his differences – but he had elected to become Batman. (Not to mention that, by day, he was a millionaire. Tough life.)

But the X-Men – that was it. That was the key. It wasn’t choice that made them who they’d become. It wasn’t circumstance that had made them different.

It was birth. Read the rest of this entry »

Lesbian sex: A guide for douchebags

Posted by Courtney Bishop on Aug. 31, 2009, at 6:41 pm

“So, what is ’sex’ for lesbians, anyway? I mean, neither of you have a dick, so it’s not like you can really fuck. You just haven’t been fucked by the right dick yet.”

You know, you’re right, guy who still high-fives and wears Ed Hardy shirts. Obviously we dykes can’t have “real” sex. “Real” sex requires use of your giant cock. You describe “sex” as the act of penetration. And even though I can penetrate a woman using other methods, and probably find her G-spot more quickly and efficiently than you can, I’m not having real sex with her. It’s ‘cause I can’t cum in her butt crack, isn’t it? Don’t be shy…you know that’s your jizz-catching area of choice…usually ‘cause you’re fucking her doggy-style…or you just have it in her asshole…I’m not insinuating you’re a closet homo or anything. Your protein shake is ready. Read the rest of this entry »

Boys’ Team vs. Girls’ Team: A lesson in dyke-otomy

Posted by Courtney Bishop on Aug. 1, 2009, at 5:59 pm

Flannel-wearing, wrench-wielding, mullet-rocking dykes. This is what we’re not. Well, not all of us…

I surround myself with a group of fabulous, interesting, women-loving women. To others — and by others, I mean heterosexuals, namely of the right-wing persuasion — lesbian women are all the same. Gay people, in general, are all the same. The women are tough and probably play a sport of some sort, and the men walk on their tiptoes and most likely have glitter somewhere in their medicine cabinets. Sure, there’s truth in all stereotypes. In this case, we’re all women who have sex with women. This is what we have in common.

In our little group, we divide ourselves into “girls’ team” (GT) and “boys’ team” (BT). There are certain rules and gender roles that accompany our team-status. Read the rest of this entry »

Katy Perry is NOT naked in this post

Posted by Rabid Nick Refer on Jul. 8, 2009, at 7:45 pm

She’s not, seriously.  However, the pop princess DID sit down with Cosmopolitan, the magazine that knows more orgasm secrets than professional sex workers, for a fun little interview and photo shoot.  And, as you may have already guessed, The Rabid One would love to wear Ms. Perry’s cherry chapstick.

Here are some lovely excerpts from the piece: Read the rest of this entry »

Would you be gay for pay?

Posted by Emmalee on Jun. 22, 2009, at 5:00 pm

Attention heterosexuals: how much would you need to be paid to sleep with a person of the same sex? $100? $1,000? Would you work at a gay club or bar and flirt with the same sex if it meant doubling or even tripling your income? Recently, I broached the topic of being gay for pay with a group of friends and opinions varied.

I’ve always had the belief that the majority of the population, respectfully excluding homosexuals, have had thoughts about experimenting with the same sex. The difference between being bi-sexual or homosexual and straight is the actual act occurring. I would not consider someone having fantasies about girl-on-girl or guy-on-guy sex bi-sexual or gay. Fantasies are simply the marriage between your imagination and curiosity, acting out those fantasies is different.

Manscaping: A follow-up to the shaven kitty

Posted by Antonio D on May. 31, 2009, at 9:52 am

Last week I decided to rant about women and their hair down there.  While I got many great responses from both men AND women about it, a ringing in my head got me thinking that it wasn’t fair to pick on just the ladies.  Men, we’re fair game too….and to be quite honest, I feel bad for women because we are rather disgusting creatures for the most part, especially when it comes to our grooming habits! Is your Kitty Purry? Video after the break

Is your Kitty Purry? Video after the break

Pandemic?  We don’t need no stinkin’ pandemic.  The world might be in a state of blinding fear but you wouldn’t know it by looking at the faces in the crowd at Katy Perry’s bay area appearance on 4/28.  The Rabid one was a part of the wily crowd and has to say, sex was flowing in the air and it had a palpable taste.

She kissed a girl and hell yeah she liked it. Her pseudo lesbian moment brought the people out en mass to Jannus Landing in St. Petersburg.  Ok, I know what you’re thinking, “who cares about pop music’s current female sensation?”  But a quick study of the mostly estrogen fueled audience yields fascinating results.   Read the rest of this entry »

That’s so gay! X-Box Live says no to sexual orientation

Posted by Rick Dakan on Mar. 2, 2009, at 9:30 pm

Wanna be called a “fag” over and over again by 12 year old boys from around the world? Well, that’s what X-Box live was designed to deliver – the young male gamer in all his puerility. I mean sure, there’s a kick-ass shooter or three in there too, but the name-calling can be hard to ignore. Unless you just turn off the voice chat like me, then you can revel in pure blasty goodness without the middle-school machismo. There’s no doubting it though – X-Box Live has a civility problem.

Microsoft has decided on a zero-tolerance policy as their last, best hope, and like all zero tolerance policies, it sucks and is offensive and makes stupid mistakes. In this instance, a woman who identified herself as a lesbian (presumably because she’s, you know, gay), was first hounded by Live idiots who harassed her because sex is scary when you’ve never had it. How did Microsoft respond to her plight? The booted her off X-Box Live because she’s identified herself as a lesbian, and in the wonderful world of Live, sex is verboten. Even having the letters “g-a-y” in your name is against the rules, sorry Mr. Gaywood. Read the rest of this entry »

Girls with a new flavor (the new hip hop sound)

Posted by Aleka Phoenix on Mar. 2, 2009, at 7:58 am

There’s been this new sound swirling around; it sounds like hip hop but with an electro beat … I’m no music critic and my vocabulary to breakdown the proper terminology is laughable. All I know is this sound is propped up by new female “alternative” artists, and they all have a killer style.

In our first Fusionistas podcast (embedded below, check it) my guest is Shunda K, creator of the group Yo! Majesty. We have a candid conversation about where she’s been and where shes going, and how she was a forerunner of this new sound. Shunda has been collaborating with many artists on different tracks and we’ll link you some so you can hear for yourself. (check ‘em down below)
