Not in the mood: causes and solutions

Posted by Peaches on Nov. 5, 2009, at 10:55 am

sex strawbery-ccSex should be fun, free, and feel good, but the reality is that it’s not always easy to get in the mood for sex.  Many things can cause a couple, or partner, to be turned off of sex. Here’s a quickie list of mood killers and tricks for recharging your sexual energy. Read the rest of this entry »

How to get a scumbag (e.g., Kevin White) out of office: Postpone his pay

Posted by Chris Ingram on Sep. 24, 2009, at 10:37 am

kevin-white-webHillsborough County Commissioner Kevin White’s sexual harassment case finally appears like it will be settled by the county. The county has agreed to pay $278,000 to White’s victim and her attorneys. I think this is the right thing to do, as it limits the potential for any further costs borne to taxpayers already on the hook for well over $500,000 for the county’s legal bills in the case.

And while the county should count its blessings that White’s libido didn’t cost taxpayers even more, the commission needs to do something to get rid of Mr. White, who refuses to resign.

White’s determination to stay on the commission (and to seek reelection next year) demonstrates his arrogance, selfishness, and his view that his constituents are too dumb to send him packing.  His self-serving nature is bad enough. That he has cost the county nearly a million bucks is what voters should be appalled at.  The nearly million bucks his actions will ultimately cost the county could have bought the sheriff’s office 20 patrol cars, or funded the county’s contribution to the Tampa Boys and Girls club for 11 years, or the NACCP Empowerment Center for 66 years! You get the point…

While Florida Governor Charlie Crist has the authority to remove White from office, Charlie does not have the leadership skills or backbone to remove him (I’m sorry, I just couldn’t pass up on the opportunity to find some fault in Chuckles); and unfortunately the county commission legally cannot remove him. Voters could organize a petition drive to recall White, but that seems unlikely to occur.

But there is something the commission could do that would likely lead to White withdrawing as a candidate next year. Read the rest of this entry »

‘Behind the Bedroom Door’ or what I learned about sex from middle-aged women

Posted by Shawn Alff on Aug. 7, 2009, at 1:09 am

Why would I, a straight man, review a collection of essays about women’s sex lives, and more importantly, why would I choose to do so on my honeymoon? Either I’m a caring husband searching for insight into pleasing my new wife, or I’m a calculating bastard researching ways to maneuver through discreet affairs. Whatever the case, I started Behind the Bedroom Door, expecting a series of romantic comedy plot lines: a torrent of quirky yet troubled sexual encounters redeemed by a meaningful relationship still in its honeymoon phase. After all, who’d write an essay about their lukewarm sex life when their current partner was sure to read it (coincidentally my marital sex life is like the opening night of a Cirque Du Soleil performance). Music and arousal: a tantalizing combination (video)

Posted by Camile on May. 9, 2009, at 11:49 am

Everyone has their jam, right? That song that comes on and you just have to hit the dance floor. With some of my friends, I wonder if they actually mean “song that makes my panties wet.” One minute mi niñas and I are in a closed off circle, dancing amongst ourselves. That song comes on, and the affected girl is plastered across some random guy, grinding for all she’s worth. I understand. Anytime I hear Luke’s “Scarred” I want to find my boyfriend, The Puppy, and grind against on him until his crotch falls off.

An anime group I belong to had discussed this on an online thread. With each song or band that was added to the list (including one member who listed “Flight of the Bumblebees”), we started trailing off into what it was about each song that got our libidos going. I was in the middle of re-reading that thread to see how much had changed when Rabid Nick posted his interesting list of sex songs. In the middle of writing a comment, I realized that I have more songs that fall into the “makes the panties wet” category than sex songs. Read the rest of this entry »

Time for sex

Posted by Shawn Alff on Feb. 24, 2009, at 1:31 pm

What is it about marriage that dooms your sex life? Is it the knowledge that you can’t even pretend you’re going to have sex with that hot new co-worker? Or, do partners stop making an effort to please each other when they know their spouse is locked into the relationship? Whatever the case, Dr. Yvonne Fulbright gives some suggestions for rekindling the bedroom flame.

-Your libidos are out of sync
You’re supposed to be soul mates…so why is it that you want it slow and sensual at night but he wants it fast and furious in the morning? Nature’s partly to blame. Guys wake up with high levels of testosterone and energy and crave sex first thing in the a.m. But at night, testosterone levels dip and a man’s blood fills with oxytocin (the cuddle hormone) right when you’re starting to get revved up.

The solution? Seek the middle ground. If he’s never in the mood after dinner, grab him before you open the take-out. If you dislike a.m. sex, join him in his morning shower. With that hot, soapy action, you’ll be convinced otherwise. Read the rest of this entry »
