Do It Today: Swing Your Empire, Writers at the U, No Bragging Rights at the Orpheum

Posted by Franki Weddington on Sep. 30, 2009, at 12:00 am

Swing your empire - Chamieh - Eventually You Will Say Something of Interest see and doIt’s the last day to see Swing Your Empire, a mysteriously titled exhibit by Tampa artist Roger Chamieh, who created an installation of mixed media and “kinetic sculpture” that challenges traditional ideas of stay-in-one-spot sculpture with art that appears fluid and in motion with the use of a variety of materials — from latex inflatables to steel (which sounds pretty kinky, if you ask me.) (Pictured: “Eventually You Will Say Something of Interest”) Through Sept. 30, HCC Performing Arts Building, Corner of Palm Avenue and 14th Street, Ybor City, 813-253-7674. —Franki Weddington
