If Charlie Crist told the truth…

Posted by Chris Ingram on Oct. 2, 2009, at 11:18 am

I got a fundraising e-mail from Charlie Crist the other day. It was a pretty good hoot the way Charlie “have it two ways” Crist is trying to paint himself as a Conservative. But hey, he’s starting to show some bravado – he’s even got the nerve to quote Ronald Reagan! Each paragraph of Chuckles’ original letter is shown below along with my version of what his letter would read like if he were to tell the truth.

What it should have said is in italics:

Waking up from a dream guilty and sweating

Posted by Dream Momma on Sep. 29, 2009, at 10:50 am

“Dream Momma, I always wake up feeling guilty and covered in sweat but cannot remember dreaming. What’s up with that?”Guilty

So, you’ve had a dream that soaked your pillow, woke you up.   Bothered you all the next day too.  “What the hell?”  you chewed. Well the hell is you’ve had a “big” dream, one like legendary dream analyst Carl Jung had as a kid.  In Jung’s dream, he was shitting on a church.  Tough dream, daytime nightmare really, for a kid whose dad was a minister.  Oh, the guilt and shame.

Guilt and shame are what a lot of cold sweat dreaming leaves us with.  Dream-cheated on your girlfriend with her mother (who has “lifted” her age backwards and looks kinda, sorta hot?)  Shame on you!  Or, you dream-stole from  the kids little league team you help coach?  What’s that about?  You’re an honest guy.  Or, gulp, imagine dreaming of seducing the kid you’re baby sitting.  Lots of guilt and shame there too.

Relax, it’s not what it appears to be. Read the rest of this entry »

Posted by Michelle Schenck on Sep. 2, 2009, at 3:01 pm

Spirit Airlines has always been my go-to for cheap flying from Tampa to Ft. As per the Spirit Airlines website:

DNA tests prove John Edwards’ alleged love child is his

Posted by Emmalee on Aug. 14, 2009, at 11:23 am

DNA tests have confirmed that former Presidential candidate, John Edwards, is the father of Rielle Hunters’s 18-month-old daughter, Frances. Even more surprisingly, National Enquirer broke the story.

Tourist throws mug at Mona Lisa, but no damage done to Mona Lisa’s mug

Posted by David Warner on Aug. 11, 2009, at 6:35 pm

An attack on a Louvre masterpiece is, of course, nothing to be laughed at, but you can’t miss the droll undercurrent in this report today from telegraph.co.uk about a Russian tourist who employed a unique if handy weapon in her assault on the Mona Lisa:

Screams erupted from the 40-odd tourists jostling for position around Leonardo da Vinci’s enigmatic painted lady when the empty terracotta mug flew over their heads and smashed into the portrait.
The Russian woman is thought to have bought it minutes earlier at the museum gift shop.

Another instance of museums ruined by commerce! Read the rest of this entry »

Interview with local filmmaker Arlen Slobodow about In The Air, a documentary about the air pollution, our health, and the environment in Tampa Bay

Posted by Matt De Vlieger on Jun. 19, 2009, at 8:00 am

Below, is an interview I just conducted with Arlen Slobodow, a local filmmaker who just completed a documentary about air pollution caused by fossil fuels in the Tampa Bay area and how it affects our health and the health of our planet. Also, see my last post which goes more in depth about the film.

The following interview was conducted by phone on the evening of Tuesday, June 16, 2009.

Matt De Vlieger (M): How did you get involved in documentary filmmaking?
Arlen Slobodow (A):
I have always been interested in social change work and have found mass media a good way to accomplish that. Read the rest of this entry »

College expenses: What am I paying for exactly?

Posted by Meagan Bemis on May. 24, 2009, at 7:00 am

All work and no play -- plus lots of spending money for ... what?

I’m a college student, in case you hadn’t guessed from the headline, and I have recently been wondering what exactly it is I’m paying for with my college expenses. It seems that every corner I round, there’s another expense just lurking in the shadows (or standing right in front of me with a club), but I have yet to decide whether I am actually reaping the benefits of these expenses.

Let me explain:

This semester I took a class with a professor who shall remain nameless who has done literally nothing. He assigned us a book to buy (cha-ching) and basically said “read these chapter, then take this exam,” with a lot of anecdotal teaching in between that served no purpose whatsoever. So, I have paid for the class, I have paid for the book – but what have I gotten in return? A whole lot of stress and no education. Outrageous, I say!

Finally a qualified applicant for my Fuck-Buddy position

Posted by Ginger Ale on May. 19, 2009, at 4:00 pm

I got thrown for a loop the other night.  I was sought out; someone wanted to turn in his fuck-buddy application.  I was reluctant at first. He’s not my normal type of applicant.  He’s not my normal type of anything.  That’s what makes him so unique and alluring.

I went to meet him with the idea of swapping ideas, not body fluids.  We’re colleagues and thought we could stimulate some creative juices–and stimulating juices is exactly what happened. Read the rest of this entry »

Dream Momma: My brother is an addict

Posted by Dream Momma on Apr. 27, 2009, at 9:57 am

Dream Momma, I dreamed I won the lottery and right afterwards met the perfect girl who was really into me. In the next part of the dream I am driving my asshole of a brother to rehab. (My last and best relationship ended because of him). I look into the rear view mirror of my new Corvette and see my parents waving good-bye from the front porch of a house I’ve never seen before. My Mom is crying and I seen her twisting a hanky in her hands. My Dads hands are clasped together like in prayer.  I’m totally confident and smile and wave out the car window, then suddenly I wake up.”

Wow, talk about a compensation dream!  I can just picture you, tossing and turning like most of us in this economic crisis, then finally falling into a fitful sleep.  Your days, when you’re not working your tail off,  are probably spent trying to keep the family together and holding Mom’s hand while cursing, pleading, cajoling and blaming your brother for everything… Read the rest of this entry »

Dream symbols: The slippery dudes of dreams

Posted by Dream Momma on Feb. 27, 2009, at 5:33 pm

Carl Jung, the well-known analyst, and Freud’s expected heir apparent (didn’t happen, they had a fight) said a symbol was the best representation of something unknown.  Jung believed symbols were lurking in the collective unconscious (a part of our psyche we share with all mankind) and they appear as messengers in dreams.  Interpreting them can be slippery.

Many cultures take dreams seriously; we do not.  Stuff and nonsense. Instead of paying attention to the dream we say to ourselves, “Let’s go make money, get high, get laid — get it all.”

The irony of course is, a correct dream interpretation by the dreamer, gets all of the above and then some.
