Love is a battlefield: fetish model Angela Ryan talks shop (pics NSFW)

Posted by Shawn Alff on Oct. 21, 2009, at 12:25 am

Angela ryan multiple pin-upsAngela Ryan, one of many nation fetish acts performing at Taboo 3 this Saturday, describes her adventures in the world of alternative modeling.

Creative Loafing: How did you become a Fetish/pinup model and a burlesque performer?

Angela Ryan: I modeled a little professionally as a child and my mother constantly had a camera in my face. After I got through those gawky teenage years I picked it back up. When I was 20 I was asked by a friend who was a photographer to model for him. It sparked an interest in me since I was so familiar with posing as a child. I decided to pursue it further and was approached by photographers all over the country to work with them. I started doing burlesque to further my creative outlets. I ended up quitting my retail and cocktailing jobs to travel. I have been modeling and performing full time ever since. It started out as just fun but I have been lucky enough to make a career out of it! Read the rest of this entry »

Finally a place to F***in dance in St. Petersburg

Posted by Aleka Phoenix on Sep. 3, 2009, at 8:00 am

Download the podcast here.

Get your very first taste of what is expected to be the beginning of some great changes in St.Petersburg. The newest party, G.L.A.S.S, begins 9.9.09 and will run every Wednesday night from 10-2 a.m. at Vintage Ultra lounge. The party will feature a variety of entertainment and interaction, and of course, most importantly, great dance-able music all night.

Two really exciting elements: Designer Go-Go Statues, in which two go-go-dancers/models will be outfitted weekly by local designers, and a Performance Art Cabaret showcasing local talent from around the bay. There will be ongoing drink specials, in addition to a “Wheel-O-Specials,” which will determine a new drink special every 30 minutes, and there will be giveaways from local businesses.

Gorilla Theatre’s Bridget Bean, unleashed: She’s out and about and blogging at Arts on 9th, American Stage and The Ritz

Posted by Bridget Bean on Jun. 17, 2009, at 4:44 pm

Watch out everybody, Bridget’s unleashed for the summer!

Well, you know, that really is an overstatement ‘cos I’m not much of a late night gal, but the Gorilla Theatre is dark for the summer (which means we don’t have any shows going on and I’m working “normal” hours) so it’s time for me to get out more and …. to see theatre in other places.  This week I went to an All Out Rep show at the Ritz, I visited Arts on 9th, and went to the 5th Annual Night of Alternative Theatre at American Stage in St. Pete.

Oh, and I welcome all your comments on this blog (like “stop writing about yourself already” or “what’s with the strange European punctuation?”) so please chip in, loveys! Read the rest of this entry »

Do you care where your American Idol’s tongue has been? Adam Lambert and the not so gay agenda (Video)

Posted by Rabid Nick Refer on May. 11, 2009, at 8:09 pm

Like Clay Aiken, except, you know, cool.

Sex and American Idol may not be synonymous, but this year things are a little different.  Enigmatic performer Adam Lambert is very close to taking the crown.  But sadly it seems many people aren’t as focused on his talent as they are on whether he’ll wear it as king…or queen.

(Video and
intrigue after the jump)

We need a lil’ “Peace Piece,” opening Tuesday

Posted by Aleka Phoenix on Feb. 19, 2009, at 6:07 pm

Working in the art/nightlife scene for six years, I have had the opportunity to meet a lot of really talented people from all areas of the industry. So when I saw that Marissa Alma Nick was back in town from LA working on a project called Peace Piece, I had to get in contact and find out what it was all about. The email I got back was full of energy and a request for me to get involved in the show in a scene called “Disco Town.” Honored to be asked to be a part of the show, I accepted. I was told that RHYMES WITH ORANGEz created the dance opera “Take a walk in my shoes” that was a part of Peace Piece. The project supports world peace, naturally, but also strongly advocates the arts in our school system. Both are great causes, and that is why I wanted to bring the information to the masses, but I was still left a bit confused on the exact details of RHYMES WITH ORANGEz, Peace Piece and “Take a walk in my Shoes.” So I had a sit-down with Marissa Alma Nick to get the DL.
