NBC refuses to run PETA’s Thanksgiving Day ad about factory farmed turkey (video)

Posted by Katie M. on Nov. 24, 2009, at 4:30 pm

peta_thxgiving_adThis controversial ad by PETA (below) addresses some of the appalling living conditions and slaughtering methods of turkeys. Apparently, this ad was set to run on NBC during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade this year.

NBC pulled the plug on this one and wanted statistics to back up these claims about conditions in factory farms. That request was then answered by Patrick Martins, head of Slow Food USA, in a piece run in the New York Times today. NBC then stated, “this commercial does not meet NBC Universal standards” and still declined to run it. (Read PETA’s blog response.)

What do you think? Do you think PETA’s in-your-face tactics are too much for mainstream media or do people have the right to know what’s really going on with their food?

Video after the break.

It happened this week-ish: Aerosmith is minus a Steven, Twilight star goes naked for PETA, Eva Mendes oils up for Calvin Klein and more

Posted by Amanda Allwood on Nov. 10, 2009, at 12:30 pm

*Steven Tyler has apparently quit Aerosmith to focus on his solo career. The thing is, he’s like 900 years old and at this point, having a solo career kinda sorta isn’t an option. You don’t see Bob Barker starting his own game show, sans the Price is Right ladies, called the “Bob Barker Project” where they play Blinko, do you? No, you don’t (…but now that I think about it…hmmmmm).

*Christian Serratos, one of the cast members of Twilight and New Moon (in theatres November 20th!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMFG! LOL! SQUEAL!), is the youngest and newest actress to get on the PETA bandwagon. I am beginning to feel like these naked PETA ads are just an outlet for actresses who want to be slutty but are past the point of doing Playboy. Also, does PETA know that they kill  A LOT of animals in Twilight? Seriously, the Cullens are sucking up Bambi blood like it’s nobody’s business.

*Nicolas Cage outbid Leonardo DiCaprio for a $276,000 dinosaur skull…of course he did. Because if I was tooooootally broke, that is the first thing I would buy. In all fairness, it probably has a treasure map engraved on the inside.

After the jump, Jeremy Piven is growing his own boobs, just in case girls stop letting him touch theirs, Eva Mendes covered in lace and wrapped up in some guy… and some more stuff.

Ronald McDonald gets a pie in the face from PETA protester

Posted by Katie M. on Aug. 10, 2009, at 5:19 pm

This is an interesting way to protest McDonald’s and draw attention to oneself:

Courtesy of Nicole Matthews, PETA

A woman who identified herself as a PETA member and was dressed as a giant chicken hit Ronald McDonald with a vegan custard pie at the “grand” opening of the new McDonald’s in the Hancock Village Shopping Center in Midlothian on Saturday morning.

Despite the clown’s cry of “No pie!“ the plucky protester managed to cream the corporate mascot with the confection before flying the coop, leaving Ronald to change his costume. The protest is part of PETA’s campaign to convince McDonald’s to make reasonable, humane, and basic improvements in the way chickens are killed for its restaurants.

Make an impact on your health and the environment by reducing your beef consumption (video)

Posted by Katie M. on Jul. 24, 2009, at 8:16 pm

Reducing your beef (or all meat, for that matter) consumption could make quite an impact on not only your health, but also on the environment.

Beef contains high levels of cholesterol and saturated fat, as well as chemicals and growth hormones. Many scientific studies have linked the consumption of red meat to heart disease, stroke, and breast and colon cancer.

According to the National Research Council, beef has the highest levels of herbicides of any food food sold in the US. This is obviously due to all of the pesticides used on the corn and soybeans that is then used for cattle feed. The NRC says that beef rates as second highest on the list of foods that pose the greatest risk of cancer due to pesticide contamination (tomatoes being the highest on the list). Their studies also show that over 95% of all cattle in the US are receiving growth hormones and other pharmaceuticals, many of those then showing up in the cuts of beef we buy at the grocery store.

Banned German Sprite ad: oral sex, soda pop and ejaculation

Posted by Shawn Alff on Jul. 21, 2009, at 9:19 am

I’ve seen a number of risque ads in my time (see PETA’s sex with vegetables ad), but I’ve never seen a Sprite used in a bukkake scene (if you don’t know what bukkake means don’t Google it).

This Sprite commercial features an attractive woman performing oral sex on a nude man. Midway through she stops and considers how she could really go for a Sprite right about now.

Enter a crotch level Sprite, which has obviously received some vigorous stimulation. In slow motion, the soda explodes all over the thirsty woman’s face in a mess of fizzy white.

I’d have liked to believe that this ad was created by Sprite’s creative and thrifty marketing group, who knew the spot would be banned and go viral. On the internet the ad would receive a second life, reaching the key demographic of internet surfers like you and me, desperate for something to distract us from work, or unemployment. Khloe Kardashian gets naked for PETA

Posted by Shawn Alff on Mar. 23, 2009, at 12:20 am

Khloe Kardashian, the taller Armenian gypsy, has followed in the footsteps of her sister Kim in making a name for herself by taking off her clothes. Khloe joined the ranks of celebrity activists like Pamela Anderson in the PETA ad campaign: “Rather Go Naked.” I must admit, the pictures look pretty damn good. Granted, some heavy airbrush work was done, Khloe proves that tall, thick women can still be sexy–very sexy.

The question I always have is if in addition to fur, these PETA celebrities are contractually obligated to give up all leather accessories. How many cows die a year to support a celeb-utant’s shopping habits?

Banned PETA ad

Posted by Shawn Alff on Feb. 12, 2009, at 4:07 pm

The only time I ever seriously considered becoming a vegetarian was when trying to impress a vegetarian love interest. Perhaps PETA had this in mind when it produced its latest commercial for a red-blooded Super Bowl audience. NBC rejected this clip via email, listing the following concerns

‘Veggie Love’: PETA’s Banned Super Bowl Ad

-licking pumpkin
-touching her breast with her hand while eating broccoli
-pumpkin from behind between legs
-rubbing pelvic region with pumpkin
-screwing herself with broccoli (fuzzy)
-asparagus on her lap appearing as if it is ready to be inserted into vagina
-licking eggplant
-rubbing asparagus on breast.

If there isn’t already a term for sex with vegetables there needs to be one. Suggestions? “Salad tossing” is taken. Smashing pumpkins… Salad shooting… Broccoli banging

Mickey Rourke’s new PETA ad (photo)

Posted by Stephen Hammill on Jan. 15, 2009, at 7:39 pm

First, critical acclaim in The Wrestler, then a spot in Sly Stallone’s new action flick, now cradling his Chihuahua, Jaws, in PETA’s new ad, the actor tells folks to “have the cojones to fix your dog. When dogs get knocked up, puppies get put down because there aren’t enough homes for them.”
