This weekend proved to me once again that I am getting too old to party like a rock star two nights in a row. [All photos by Nicole Kibert.]

The self-abuse began this past Friday night, when I set out to, and I quote myself here, “get Lucero drunk.” [Frontman Ben Nichols pictured at left.] I am happy to report that my mission was a complete success. The trade off, though, is that my recollection of the show is slightly hazy. A lot of the reviews I read leading up to Lucero’s Tampa show were about the crowd, that the frat boy concentration levels were reportedly getting dangerously high. I didn’t really notice it being a problem here, though my only complaint about the show was the crowd — a completely expected complaint all things considered. See, as a band’s popularity and attending crowds grow, the devotion level of the crowd begins to get diluted. While there was no shortage of people at Czar who where there to be seen rather than to see Lucero, they didn’t hurt the quality of what was happening on the stage, so let’s talk about that … and the horns. The bump-and-groove crew was in high spirits as we enjoyed a brief reprieve from our regular lives and shed the stresses of the week to take a ride on the Junior Boys’ indie train to electro jam land. [All photos by elawgrrl.]

The stage was bathed in saturated lights and scattered with Halloween trimmings; flickering jack-o-lanterns, a crow perched on the keys, a huge skull and crossbones hanging over the drums, rainbow spears of light shining up and out of the drumkit and into the audience, and occasional blasts of fog for extra effect. Creative Loafing: How did you become a Fetish/pinup model and a burlesque performer?

Angela Ryan: I modeled a little professionally as a child and my mother constantly had a camera in my face. After I got through those gawky teenage years I picked it back up. When I was 20 I was asked by a friend who was a photographer to model for him. It sparked an interest in me since I was so familiar with posing as a child. I decided to pursue it further and was approached by photographers all over the country to work with them. I started doing burlesque to further my creative outlets. I ended up quitting my retail and cocktailing jobs to travel. I have been modeling and performing full time ever since. Local and national adult stars came out early Monday for the 17th Annual Night Moves Adult Awards. Notorious porn star Ron Jeremy hosted the event, telling dirty jokes and fondling fans. Tampa performer Evelyn Rose taunted the crowd with her fetish act, Rebecca Love bounced out of her sequin Buccaneers cheerleading outfit, and 2001 Odyssey girls spiraled through an erotic version of Cirque du Soleil. Porn stars, local adult entertainers, online entrepreneurs, fans, half drunk nudists, and overenthusiastic dudes with cameras such as myself, flocked to the nudists resort Caliente Sunday to pre-party for the 17th annual NightMoves Adult Entertainment Awards Show Monday at the Dallas Bull. I went hoping to get a nude Facebook photo with Ron Jeremy, moments after drenching his man-meat in ice water. Instead I snapped pictures from the sidelines as he fondled my topless lady friend.

The various adult entertainers in attendance included, Alektra Blue, Alexis Ford, Christy Wild, Derrick Pierce, local fetish model Evelyn Rose, Jessica Drake, Kayden Kross, Kaylani Lei, Kylie Ireland, Mariah Milano, Trina Michaels, and Zoe Britton. 400 Beach Seafood and Tap House (400 Beach Dr., St. Petersburg, 727-896-2400)
This new restaurant by Steve Westphal (of Parkshore Grill), is in the the spot made famous as the potential home of a restaurant by lying Food Network chef Robert Irvine. 400 Beach’s focus is on seafood in almost all its forms, from baskets of fried clams to raw oysters to fish en papilote.

I reviewed the new Queenshead Eurobar — essentially more a gastropub than a bar, Euro or otherwise — yesterday, and liked the place quite a bit, thanks to food from chef Chris Greer and gregarious owners Paul Smith and Darren Conner. It’s a great addition to the Grand Central district with a distinctly neighborhood vibe to the clientele, although the place is good enough to become a destination for other St. Pete residents.
