Routes Music rewind, Austin: From the drunken debauchery on Sixth Street to the soothing sound of violins

Posted by Alex Pickett on Nov. 7, 2009, at 6:40 pm

Routes Music is a documentary film acting as a roving music census, taking in the true musical passions (and disgusts) of the American people. We’re traveling all across the country, stopping along the way to interview local bands, take footage of live performances and chat with anyone and everyone. Learn more about the documentary here; check out all previous entries here.

The first thing we noticed on Austin’s infamous Sixth Street was the preponderance of clubs. Not the live music that Austin is known for, but booming bass beckoning babes in short skirts (and the dudes chasing them). Roads blocked off … police bored and leering … drunk college kids swaying from one sidewalk to another … a street musician, here or there, drowned out by the latest pop hits.

To find some music that wasn’t prerecorded, the Routes Music crew had to drive across town to locally-owned and operated Violins Etc., a full service string shop.

Inside, we were greeted by hundreds of violins – some brand new and ready for sale, others in various states of disrepair – as well as the employees who fixed them.

Posted by Emmalee on Jul. 30, 2009, at 2:08 pm

Rodell Veree, 50, was charged with having sex with a horse after the horse’s and stable owner, Barbara Kenley, filmed him in the act on videotape. This isn’t the first time Veree has been caught having barnyard sex. Last year he pleaded guilty to buggery with the same horse, Sugar. Kenley couldn’t believe it was the same man and the same horse.

6 urban sex legends that are actually true

Posted by Shawn Alff on Jul. 10, 2009, at 3:50 pm

1. You can tell if a man is gay based on the size of his fingers.

-See Digital Ratio Theory in psychologytoday.com, which can accurately predict the levels of testosterone and estrogen you were subjected to as a child based on the length of your ring and index fingers. [Editor's Note: Read the article carefully; it does not confirm that the legend about finger size and sexual orientation is "true." Note the concluding paragraph: "'You have to be careful,' he says. 'You can't look at someone's fingers and make a determination about whether they are heterosexual or lesbian, just as you can't decide whether they're neurotic. The [sexuality indicators] are most certainly there, but they’re not strong enough to allow us to make predictions.’”]

The fuck-buddy search continues

Posted by Ginger Ale on Jun. 19, 2009, at 8:00 am

I’m back on the hunt for my next fuck buddy applicant. The qualified applicant I came across wasn’t available to accept the position - he already had an employer and was just testing the market. It was a great interview that ended too soon. I was prepared to have multiple interviews and multiple organisms with him, but that’s the way it sometimes goes with fuck buddies.

My quest for a dependable, exciting fuck buddy has inspired and shocked my friends. I have one girlfriend who’s recently divorced and sees the wisdom in the fuck buddy application process. Meet them, take their application, give them a thorough interview and either offer them the job or kick them to the curb. It’s not that hard of a process, just one you have to be careful of.  Read the rest of this entry »

Traffic Court Dining

Posted by gnatv on Jan. 8, 2009, at 12:02 am

” Weaseling out of things is important to learn. It’s what separates us from the animals… except the weasel”

-Homer Simpson

I received a parking ticket at the beginning of December for parking the wrong way on the street in front of my house. I think I was 30 feet away from my car when this cop pulled up to my house where I have lived for the past 10 years and he wrote a $44 dollar ticket. I decided to fight it.

I received all sorts of neat advice from people who have never been to traffic court.
“Oh don’t worry, cops never show up! Trust me because I’ve never fought a ticket and I watch a lot of TV.”
“Dude I hear that the police never show up, and they probably wont remember the ticket because it was like a month earlier.”
“You will probably win because you are special and junk! I heard that no one shows up to court and you win automatically.”

Yesterday I showed up to traffic court. Traffic court is interesting because they stuff 40 other people who are also innocent in a court room and there’s no jury. Basically, it looks like a church chapel. There are pew-like benches, a podium at the front, seats on the sides, and the big table where the judge sits.

I’d like to take a moment to dispel a few rumors about traffic court. The officer who wrote you that ticket WILL show up. I don’t know where this stupid idea that cops don’t show up to their job started. They have notes on pretty much all tickets and arrests. They also have more experience in court than you, hopefully. If you did something wrong, you will not get off so easy. However, if the judge thinks your bullshit was unfair, you could get your ticket dismissed or lowered. Read the rest of this entry »
