Tits in the city: pics from NYC’s ‘Go Topless Day’ Celebration (NSFW)

Posted by Miss Ginger Millay on Aug. 25, 2009, at 12:03 am

Sunday, 8/23 was National Go Topless Day, a celebration of women’s equality, including their right to forgo shirts. Festivities took place in several cities including Maui, Miami, Chicago, Portland and, of course, New York.

I went to check out the action at “Boobstock” in Central Park, if only for the opportunity to feel the liberation of wearing just a miniskirt and flip flops on a hot summer day. Boobs of all  shapes and sizes came out to play. Some were beautiful, others had seen better days, but regardless, the mood of the crowd was exhilarating. Read the rest of this entry »

Posted by Emmalee on Jul. 28, 2009, at 7:11 am

Since MTV’s The Hills began in the summer of 2006, Heidi Montag has gone from Lauren Conrad’s sweet best friend to Spencer Pratt’s feisty vixen. Montag has seemingly tried everything to stay in the celebrity spotlight, starting with her awful music video (directed by her new husband, Spencer) of Montag running and rolling on the beach in a bikini.

Healthy summer vegetable tabbouleh salad

Posted by Katie M. on Jul. 17, 2009, at 11:49 am

Tabbouleh salad is a quick and simple dish that can be served as a side, used in a wrap, or just eaten by itself. I like to spruce mine up with fresh veggies and herbs, like I’ve done with this recipe. This light and refreshing salad with bright flavors makes for great summer fare.

Tabbouleh is traditionally a Middle Eastern dish used for mezze (appetizer finger food) that primarily contains bulgur wheat, parsley, mint, lemon juice and olive oil. It’s often seen served as dip or in pita bread.

Where have the frogs gone?

Posted by lindataylor on Jul. 7, 2009, at 8:00 am

Last Wednesday – which many of your remember due to the heavy rain, flooded roads and overflowing water barrels – I had the wonderful opportunity to speak at the Florida Native Plant Society’s monthly meeting held at the Pinellas Extension Center in Largo. As I left the building, an orchestra of frog calls filled the damp night. The roar was almost deafening and oh so beautiful. In the warm humid evening I was catapulted back to my childhood: listening to frogs “croak” and watching fireflies dance – a treat that fewer and fewer children will experience.

Going to the movies this summer for a cause

Posted by Ashley Grant on Jul. 2, 2009, at 12:06 pm

Going to the movies is a fun activity for kids during the summer. However, with high prices, many parents might be debating whether or not to catch a flick on the big screen. The good news is that there are a few theaters offering free and discounted movies for kids.

On Tuesdays and Wednesdays Muvico is hosting a free Summer Film Festival and AMC is hosting a Summer Movie Camp with $1 admissions every Wednesday through Aug. 5. Both movie theater companies are raising money for charity by offering these free and discounted films.

Shrimp sliders recipe: Perfect for your next cookout

Posted by Katie M. on May. 28, 2009, at 11:17 am

Cookout season is upon us, and what’s one of the first things that pops into my head when I think about cookouts? Burgers! It’s one of the best forms of finger food and a staple of summer cookout foods.

Contrary to what many people may think, burgers don’t always have to include just beef, or any meat at all, for that matter. Start thinking outside the burger box and get creative with: from ground lamb or chicken to portobello mushrooms or seafood. Then find some fun condiment combinations to top them with to enhance their flavor. Why not make your own condiment for your burgers to elevate their gourmet factor?

I experimented with shrimp as the protein for my latest burger concoction and made them into sliders (which also work as fun little appetizers). To bind the chopped shrimp I had to use some cracker crumbs, mayo and an egg, to end up with a crab cake-like patty. Just be sure, if you make a burger with shrimp, crab or fish, to not use too much breadcrumb filling in your mixture because you don’t want to end up with a dense product. Think: more meat to filler in your burger mix ratio.

These shrimp sliders can be baked, grilled, or pan-fried. If you’re going to grill them, just be sure to thoroughly spray your grill down with non-stick grill spray before placing the patties down (see below for further cooking instructions). Read the rest of this entry »
