Review: (not) Married With Children XXX (video)

Posted by Sex and Love editor on Nov. 13, 2009, at 12:36 am

not-married-with-children-xxx

The original Married With Children was a raunchy, cartoon of a sitcom, filled with sexual innuendos and over the top caricatures of sexuality (see Peg and Kelly). The advantage of the parody porn version, not Married with Children XXX, is that it can actually show all the dirty things the jokes reference, like Bud whacking off into a sink or Al looking up women’s skirts at the shoe store.

Al’s job is threatened as a new guy steals all his attractive female clients with the aid of ecstasy pills.  Faced with losing his job, Al employs Kelly to help catch his co-worker with his pants down. Sex and hilarity ensue. Read the rest of this entry »

Routes Music, Long Beach: Modern shaman ‘Mushroom’ uses didgeridoo to heal mind, body, spirit (with video)

Posted by Alex Pickett on Nov. 10, 2009, at 7:05 pm

Routes Music is a documentary film acting as a roving music census, taking in the true musical passions (and disgusts) of the American people. We’re traveling all across the country, stopping along the way to interview local bands, take footage of live performances and chat with anyone and everyone. Learn more about the documentary here; check out all previous entries here.

We met Mushroom Montoya in Long Beach after a long, hard day on Malibu Beach. A practicing “modern shaman” for nearly three decades, Montoya views music as more than entertainment: he uses it for healing the mind, body and spirit. His tools are the drum and the didgeridoo, a hollowed-out pole that, when blown into, sounds like a nest of idle bees. Montoya’s choice of the didgeridoo is no accident; the instrument is said to be man’s first wind instrument dating back thousands of years. Aboriginal shamans in Australia used the didgeridoo in their own rituals and ceremonies.

Well, it just so happened that Phil was complaining of congestion, so Montoya took out one of his three didgeridoos to help clear our crew member’s sinuses. Watch the video below: Read the rest of this entry »

Routes Music, Indio: A look at Phish Festival 8 from the costumes to the light show

“Where eeez yer pipe?”

A 6’4 security guard towered over me, glaring.

“Where eeez yer pipe?” he repeated in a thick Islands accent.

“What?” I replied, not sure he really just asked me what I think he just asked me.

“Where eeez yer pipe?” he asked again.

“My what?” I said again, still shocked.

“Yer pipe. Yer pipe.”

Now he was aggravated. I’m enjoying feigning ignorance.

“I don’t know what you’re saying, man.”

The guard switches tactics.

“Drugs?”

I smile.

“No, no drugs.”

“OK, go ahead.”

So began my very first experience at an extended-day music festival, and only my second time ever seeing the seminal jam band, Phish. Luckily, the rest of the three-day fest at the Empire Polo Grounds in Indio, Calif. went smoother than my entry.

The Great Goddess, a dream guide, a red rose and affirmation

Posted by Dream Momma on Oct. 22, 2009, at 2:45 pm

red-rose“Hello Dream Momma!

I saw your video from the St. Petersburg short film festival on http://www.roblimo.com/ and a dream that I had in the wee hours of Saturday came to mind. I was starting a job at a company I worked for 25 years ago, and only one person was still there (she would be close to 70 now and I haven’t had any contact with her in probably 20+ years). A gentleman in a suit, carrying a large bouquet of flowers (fall colors, I remember distinctly with no roses) had a single red rose in his other hand, which he gave to me and said welcome back. I knew this person wasn’t an employee, however I did thank him and call him by his name…Morley Safer. “Thank you, Morley!”

I normally don’t have dreams stick in my mind but this one was way far out there to say the least. Any clues as to what it might mean?” (sic)

I sure do! It’s a wonderful, affirming dream. Your unconscious, via your dream guide, is Read the rest of this entry »

Three shows for Tuesday: Willie Nelson, Vivian Girls and Jason Ricci (with video)

Posted by Leilani Polk on Oct. 20, 2009, at 12:36 pm

It’s another Tuesday night and there’s not one, not two, but three shows to choose from featuring three very different artists.

Outlaw country music icon and good-natured, pot-loving, bandana-wearing Willie Nelson kicks out so many albums that it’s hard to keep up — 31 the last time I checked, the most jasonriccirecent a collaboration with jazz trumpeter Wynton Marsalis. This show makes up for a canceled date back in March, and is Nelson’s first show in the Bay area in four years. 8 p.m., Ruth Eckerd Hall, Clearwater; call for ticket info.

The rapid-rising all-girl Brookyn trio Vivian Girls combine surf rock, Ramones-raw punk and jangly garage pop with three-part vocals that drone in girlish harmony. The two-year-old band just released their sophomore album, Everything Goes Wrong, in September. Sleepy Vikings open. 8 p.m., Crowbar, Ybor City, $10 (all ages).

The Nashville singer-songwriter and harmonica rager Jason Ricci [pictured] brings his fiery, blues-infused roots rock back to the Skipperdome; rumors are his last show was “un-fucking-believable” and he’s sure to tear the roof off the sucker at this one, too. 8 p.m., Skipper’s Smokehouse, Tampa, $10.

Miss Destructo: Zombie Hunter

When you think of Orlando, you may think of Mickey Mouse and the tourist-filled, neon-lit strip of International Drive.  However, now all I see is Mickey’s zombiefied clone terrorizing tourists and International Drive becoming a twisted nightmare of ghoulish zombies … oh and Jake Busey.

My family has some strange traditions. For the last three years, we’ve packed up the whole crew to  go to Orlando for the horror-themed convention Spooky Empire (formerly known as Screamfest).  It’s a three-day-long event full of celebrity panels, vendors selling gory goods and infamously wild late night pool parties. Read more about Spooky Empire and watch the video after the jump…. Britney’s Bad Imitator: Heidi Montag at the Miss Universe Pageant

Posted by Krystel Knowles on Aug. 26, 2009, at 1:07 pm

On Sunday night, the much-anticipated 2009 Miss Universe pageant aired live for the entire world to see from the Bahamas. As with any other bigtime live event, there are always guest performances, some better than others. The Hills‘ reality show celebrity-turned-wannabe-singer Heidi Montag was among the worst, her sub-par performance such a disaster that most Americans likely felt secondhand embarrassment and found themselves wishing for Britney Spears’ return.

Heidi played “Body Language” (which samples Yazoo’s 1982 hit, “Situation”) from her debut album, Unleashed, launched in July along with her questionable music career. She was clad in a nude, sequined, unflattering two-piece that seemed to be an obvious knock-off of Britney’s performance wardrobe from the 2000 VMA’s.

But her dancing may have been even worse than her wardrobe selection. Heidi lacked rhythm and enthusiasm, and the choreography was very basic and had no truly memorable moments. Watching her trying to bust a move was like watching an infant trying to learn body coordination. The song itself was repetitive and with much distortion in a seeming attempt to mask Heidi’s atrocious singing abilities.

Queenshead Eurobar in pictures and video

Posted by Brian Ries on Aug. 26, 2009, at 9:52 am

I reviewed the new Queenshead Eurobar — essentially more a gastropub than a bar, Euro or otherwise — yesterday, and liked the place quite a bit, thanks to food from chef Chris Greer and gregarious owners Paul Smith and Darren Conner. It’s a great addition to the Grand Central district with a distinctly neighborhood vibe to the clientele, although the place is good enough to become a destination for other St. Pete residents.

Here’s a more expansive look at the new place, and its food, thanks to photographer jamesostrand.com and amateur videographer David Warner:

Queenshead is housed in a '50s era gas station, which means covered seating in the former home of the pumps.

Congressman Vern Buchanan’s Bradenton town hall meeting on health care reform (video)

Posted by Wayne Garcia on Aug. 21, 2009, at 10:05 am

“I’m not interested in taking it from the seniors and giving it to somebody else.”

That is Sarasota Congressman Vern Buchanan’s statement about health care coverage from his town hall meeting on Thursday night at Braden River High School in Bradenton. Of course, Vern doesn’t tell them that they are ALREADY paying for other people, through their taxes that reimburse hospitals for the uninsured at exorbitant rates. Better to let uninsured folks get reallll sick (expensive sick), after all, than have health coverage that provides preventive and well care at lower, more affordable costs.

Here’s video of the towner from PoHo correspondent Robin “Roblimo” Miller, after the jump. It gets testy when a pro-Obama speaker gets up at about 4:20 in:

CL Feature: The Fiery Furnaces (with video)

Posted by Leilani Polk on Aug. 18, 2009, at 2:30 pm

The Fiery Furnaces have been lauded for their ingenuity and ambitiousness, for breaking the indie rock mold and becoming true sonic adventurers. Conversely, they’ve have been criticized for being too prolific, for producing music too challenging or unfocused or overindulgent for a good sit-down-and-get-to-know-ya.

Darlings or misfits, one thing is certain: The Fiery Furnaces are crafty, inexhaustible artists who may be too inspired for their own good. The core members, brother and sister duo Matthew and Eleanor Friedberger (pictured), don’t seem to take any downtime — they’re either touring or creating music or brewing up new and better ways to play, present, record, arrange and engage their fans in their music.

“It’s something we take very seriously, but it’s something we would do anyway, so it makes us want to do it a lot,” Matthew told me by phone a few weeks before their August 22 Tampa stop. “Make records, write songs — you wanna do that as much as possible really, because that’s what you do for fun.” Read the rest of this entry »

Concert review: Judas Priest at St. Pete Times Forum

Posted by Joel Weiss on Aug. 18, 2009, at 1:47 pm

A sepia-toned banner depicting a factory and smokestacks reading, “Welcome to the home of British Steel,” obscures the stage. The half-house configured St. Pete Times Forum makes the half-full crowd of not more than several thousand look less than impressive. People cheer loud enough as the lights dim and hammers strike steel over the PA. Twin guitars chug, the banner falls, and the metal god snarls, “Pounding the world/ like a battering ram.” So begins “Rapid Fire,” the opening track of British Steel – Judas Priest’s 1980 breakthrough album – set to be replayed sequentially on every stop of their current U.S. tour in order to commemorate its 30th anniversary. So what if the album’s only 29 years old? Nobody’s perfect! (Photo by Ross Halfin from Wembley Stadium, February 2009; courtesy of JudasPriest.com.)

Judas Priest wasn’t supposed to carry the metal load by themselves this summer. Prior to this past week, fellow English hard rockers Whitesnake capably warmed up crowds with their mix of pop rock success (”Here I Go Again”) and ’80’s hair-band anthems (”Still of the Night”). That was until frontman David Coverdale’s vocal chords could no longer handle the strain. I guess that’s why Coverdale isn’t the metal god, and Halford is. Hey… nobody’s perfect!

But isn’t the phrase ‘nobody’s perfect’ merely optimist-speak for ‘inherently flawed’? (Setlist and some decent fan-recorded video after the jump). Read the rest of this entry »

The Cove documentary reminds all Floridians that swimming with dolphins is wrong

Cross-posted from The Political Whore blog.

PoHo contributor
Catherine Durkin Robinson is a “feminist mother of twins” and a political blogger, working under the title Out in Left Field.

When he speaks about the impact of captivity on the mammals, he doesn’t sound like a showboater, and what might seem like New Age-y talk about dolphin intelligence is pointed up with footage that left me haunted, too. That smile, says O’Barry, is nature’s greatest deception. Dolphins smile even when they’re crying on the inside.

Living in Florida, I am used to certain theme-and-water-park douchebaggery.

Comes with the heat, bugs, and old people driving 30-mph down the highway.

But there is something vastly disturbing about certain aquariums and water parks. And not only in Florida.

Video of LeBron James getting dunked on by an amateur surfaces

Posted by Joe Bardi on Jul. 23, 2009, at 1:44 pm

After weeks of hearing about it, the world finally gets its first look at video of amateur B-baller Jordan Crawford throwing down the rock in King James’ face. Will LeBron ever be able to appear in public again?

In a word: yes. First off, the TMZ video makes the original NASA moon landing tapes look like IMAX. Second, it’s just not that impressive. Yes, the kid dunks the ball, and yes LeBron is there kinda-sorta contesting the shot. So what? Tiger Woods missing the cut at the British Open last week is far more humiliating than anything on this tape.

Boy did Nike blow this one. If they had just let the video leak out to YouTube in the first place, the interest that the dunking has generated would have been muted. As it is, millions more people will now see Nike’s poster boy get faced than ever would have before. Good one, Nike. What’s next, hiring child slaves to make the shoes?

Sports reporter Erin Andrews’ peephole pictures: ESPN fights back (SFW)

Posted by Shawn Alff on Jul. 21, 2009, at 1:07 pm

Erin Andrews is a professionally hot, ESPN sports reporter whom millions of men have fantasized about seeing naked. Playboy even crowned her America’s Sexiest Sportscaster in 2008. She also happens to be a local girl who attended Bloomingdale High in Valrico, Florida.

Unfortunately some creeper recently videotaped her through a peephole while she changed in her hotel room. As is usually the case with voyeuristic celebrity sex tapes, at first no one was sure the video was of Andrews. However, ESPN recently sent a scathing letter to the owners of websites that published the peephole video, in effect verifying that the woman in the video is Andrews. An excerpt from the letter is posted below. Read the rest of this entry »

Banned German Sprite ad: oral sex, soda pop and ejaculation

Posted by Shawn Alff on Jul. 21, 2009, at 9:19 am

I’ve seen a number of risque ads in my time (see PETA’s sex with vegetables ad), but I’ve never seen a Sprite used in a bukkake scene (if you don’t know what bukkake means don’t Google it).

This Sprite commercial features an attractive woman performing oral sex on a nude man. Midway through she stops and considers how she could really go for a Sprite right about now.

Enter a crotch level Sprite, which has obviously received some vigorous stimulation. In slow motion, the soda explodes all over the thirsty woman’s face in a mess of fizzy white.

I’d have liked to believe that this ad was created by Sprite’s creative and thrifty marketing group, who knew the spot would be banned and go viral. On the internet the ad would receive a second life, reaching the key demographic of internet surfers like you and me, desperate for something to distract us from work, or unemployment. 6 urban sex legends that are actually true

Posted by Shawn Alff on Jul. 10, 2009, at 3:50 pm

1. You can tell if a man is gay based on the size of his fingers.

-See Digital Ratio Theory in psychologytoday.com, which can accurately predict the levels of testosterone and estrogen you were subjected to as a child based on the length of your ring and index fingers. [Editor's Note: Read the article carefully; it does not confirm that the legend about finger size and sexual orientation is "true." Note the concluding paragraph: "'You have to be careful,' he says. 'You can't look at someone's fingers and make a determination about whether they are heterosexual or lesbian, just as you can't decide whether they're neurotic. The [sexuality indicators] are most certainly there, but they’re not strong enough to allow us to make predictions.’”]

While it may surprise you to learn there’s porn specifically for the blind and deaf, it may shock you to discover that there’s porn for the deaf who are into giantesses (giant women), CGI, feet, vore (being eaten whole), and crushing (being stepped on). Michael Jackson: a news roundup 10 days after his death at 50 (with video of his last rehearsal)

Posted by Eric Snider on Jul. 5, 2009, at 5:39 pm

Ten days after his death, Michael Jackson is the biggest story in the entertainment world. Some of you may be crying overkill, but I’m still keeping tabs. Here’s a series of the latest links I’ve come across.

Video of Jackson at his last rehearsals.

Jackson’s public memorial confirmed for L.A.’s Staples Center on Tuesday, July 7.

TV networks planning coverage of Jackson memorial.

Billboard: How Michael Jackson’s Thriller changed the music biz.

Billboard: Jackson will likely set more chart records.

Billboard: “Michael Jackson and MTV — The M once stood for Michael.”

Madonna honors Jackson during a show at same arena in London that he was to perform 50 shows.

Former L.A. Times music critic Robert Hilburn, who probably had more access to MJ than any other scribe, writes a remembrance.

Jackson news coverage touches on the tawdry side.

Leighton Meester’s sex tape (NSFW)

Posted by Web Editor on Jun. 29, 2009, at 12:14 pm

When will celebutantes learn? Just because you spend your days acting sexy in front of a camera doesn’t mean you should spend your nights filming sex tapes, unless of course you want to sue for millions and boost your career from an actress playing a socialite on Gossip Girl to the real thing.

What’s the buzz on the latest issues in the Green Community? Check out what you may have missed this past week:

Reconstructing a historic bat tower in Temple Terrace and how to build your own bat roost- Grant Rimbey investigates efforts in Temple Terrace to reconstruct an historic tower for bats, discusses a large community bat roost he designed for the Florida Bat Conservancy, and tells how you can purchase (or build) your own bat roost for your yard.

Summer Solstice: A brief history- Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year, occurs this Sunday- June 21st. Here are a few facts you might not have known about it, from Linda Taylor.

Organics: How to eat well without breaking your budget- With the increase of demand over organic food in the last ten years you would think that a wide range of these products would be easily accessible. Here’s some some advice from Kelly Rothwell on purchasing healthy, organic food in this region without breaking your budget.

Video game review for Red Faction Guerrilla: Smashing the man for a better Mars

Posted by Rick Dakan on Jun. 19, 2009, at 10:09 am

I have certain weak points – topics that just get me interested and excited without hearing more than a few words. Armed revolution against The Man is one of those. I’m a sucker for tales of bold freedom fighters living underground and facing incredible odds as they try to tear down the system. Red Faction Guerrilla not only delivers a great smash the state simulator, it also gives you a great smash EVERYTHING simulator. Indeed, on reflection, the game’s central plot of freeing Mars from the tyranny of Earth is just fine but not thrilling, but the fact that very single building is destructible ii exciting, chain-reaction inducing, Mars-shaking ways, is what makes this game a ton of fun.

You’re just a working guy, come to Mars to make your way as a miner, but when the bastard Earth Defense Forces kill your brother because he’s part of the revolutionary Red Faction, it’s time to take up your sledge hammer and fight the man. The game is an open-world, third-person actioner, with Mars divided up into six different districts. Each district offers core missions that you have to complete in order to liberate the zone, but it also has a host of side missions that lower the EDF’s control. There’s nice variety in these side missions – driving around manning a turret for an insane revolutionary, freeing captured prisoners, intercepting EDF convoys, participating in Red Faction raids, stealing cars, and of course blowing up buildings. Most people will not enjoy all of these equally, but Red Faction’s OK with that – you never have to do all the side missions, and if there’s a type you don’t enjoy you can easily ignore them completely. In fact, you could ignore them all and just go around blowing up buildings and doing the core missions if you wanted to. I admire that level of freedom in a game like this.

In The Air (Video): Local documentarian explores impacts of fossil fuel emissons on Tampa Bay and its residents

Posted by Matt De Vlieger on Jun. 17, 2009, at 5:24 pm

Recently, I received an email from a local filmmaker, Arlen Slobodow of Public Media Productions, asking me to take a look at a 17-minute video he just completed on public health and the environmental consequences of air pollution in the Tampa Bay area.  Because I am such a supporter of local independent media production, things that inspire action for the public good, and combating big polluters, I thought I’d share it.  Also, be sure to check out my interview with the film’s writer/director/producer, Arlen Slobodow, in my next post.
