The women of ‘G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra’

Posted by Rabid Nick Refer on Aug. 9, 2009, at 10:33 pm

It’s getting better and better to be a nerd.  Geeky girls have taken over Playboy and Twitter.  Our favorite franchises from when we were wee little nerds are coming to the silver screen, like this week’s G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.  I won’t comment on the quality of the film (in fact the Rabid One and Hopp plan on liquoring up first just to make it through), but I’m totally qualified to review the lovely women who suited up to bring this G rated cartoon to a solid PG-13.

Infidelity: not as bad as you think

Posted by Shawn Alff on Jul. 10, 2009, at 12:42 pm

Unfaithful politicians have been around since, well since as long as there have been politicians. So why do we now expect philandering political figures like Senator John Ensign and Governor Mark Sanford to resign because of an affair? Many Americans see infidelity as a major source of the erosion of morals and marriages in modern times. The truth is that spouses have always been unfaithful, it’s just now more socially acceptable to get divorced over an affair. Samara O’Shea of the Huffington Post goes against the grain in her article on adultery, reminding us that if our society was going to collapse because of adultery, it would have happened a long time ago. Awards for Slumdog Millionaire are well-deserved

Posted by Michelle Stark on Jan. 16, 2009, at 6:29 pm

I have a natural and somewhat unexplained affinity for all things having to do with India. I’ve also really liked British director Danny Boyle ever since he made zombie attacks (in 28 Days Later) and heroin addiction (in Trainspotting) seem so aesthetically cool.

So, naturally, when my dad told me about a new Boyle movie called Slumdog Millionaire about a poor Indian kid who ends up winning a million dollars, I was interested.

I wasn’t even deterred by my grandma, who had no problem telling me once she found out I wanted to see the movie that it was the “worst movie of the year.” I love her dearly – but guess what, grandma? Slumdog took away the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture- Drama – and three additional Globes – on Sunday, proving that more than a few people disagree about it being the worst movie of the year… Read the rest of this entry »

A house divided: Florida vs. Oklahoma equals domestic unrest

Posted by Holley Sinn on Dec. 15, 2008, at 11:32 am

Sooner Holley: About halfway through regular season play, my husband and I started talking about college football armageddon: The Florida Gators made an incredible turnaround after Tim Tebow’s moving speech following the Ole Miss game, and the Oklahoma Sooners started racking up touchdown after touchdown against every opponent following the Texas game.  Could it be possible that our two teams might meet in the BCS National Championship Game?

When conference championship weekend came to an end, we looked at each other and with a single glance; the battle line was drawn.  Not only would our teams, who had never in history met on the gridiron, see each other in a BCS match-up, it would be for the National Title.  Ever since, I have been inundated with Tebow propaganda… Read the rest of this entry »
