Packer-ing Them In? Mariposa To Open Soon!

June 22nd, 2007 by Brian Ries in Chefs, Gossip, Openings/Closings, Restaurants

Rand Packer — formerly of our local Roy’s and Taylor Eason’s pick for hottest Bay area chef — will be opening his own Mariposa Mexican Grill on July 1, wayyyyy up N Dale Mabry. I haven’t seen the menu yet, but the chef promises “Pacific fresh Mexican”, with homemade fresh tortillas, fresh fruit featured in popsicles and juice blends, and a whole lot Mexi-cuisine loaded with fresh herbs and dried chiles. Did I say fresh?

I tried this Mariposa Grill for the 1st time today not impressed. I went there for takeout i had to wait over 20min. for what was a burrito and taco that you could get at moes grill in less the time. The restaurant has no waiting area for take out customers. The customers have to hang around the register where everybody is ordering their food for take out or eat in or you can hang around the soda machines where basically you are in the way. I wished they had a website so I can formally send them a complaint. I also ordered a salad since my husband is on a low carb diet and when i get it home the salad has a bed of rice at the bottom of the lettuce???? Also ordered tacos and a burrito. (did not come with any accompaniments or chips total bill $24.00 over price for the service and food you actually get. i am very disappointed

I completely disagree- I got my take out and had to wait a couple minutes as well…. but the food was well worth the wait. I had a salad too and was excited for the rice and beans that are both at the bottom because that’s what it said on the menu. I didn’t want the dressing that came on it I wanted to switch and they were more than accomodating. Everyone was very friendly and all smiles- and you could tell they were working very hard and they had a lot to do but they didn’t make me feel like I was just another person to walk in the door. I enjoyed it very much and will be back frequently.

Haven’t had the pleasure of trying it for myself, however, they do have a very nice website to send them personal comments, suggestions, and/or complaints. It is mariposamexicangrille.com. I do know that they are committed to customer satisfaction and will do there best to satisfy their customers. Having said that, there wil always be some people that you just can’t make happy.

What are you talking about, I love there food, sure u have to wait for your food to be made cause its a regular restaruant but the steak in the grande barito is so much better then anything moes hurles out. there salad is not like a normal salad it goes with the theme pacific mexican, so next time just ask for a salad without rice and they will hook you up. a restaurant is about food, not time!

WOW, tried it for the first time today 8-8-07. WOW is all I can say. It was great and the Wahoo Tacos were to die for. I have never had a better fish taco and I have lived in Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Bermuda and St. John.

What a winner and a great price. They are going to add wine soon and that will just put them over the top for me.
