Robert Irvine is More Ooze Than Schmooze
February 17th, 2008 by Brian Ries in Chefs, Gossip, Media, Restaurants
I’ve been pounding on this muscle-bound mook ever since he announced the name of his “future” restaurant in St. Petersburg. Something about his unrelenting tight-assed demeanor, pseudo-military appearance, pointy head, bad teeth and, well, let’s face it, the fact that he works for the Food Network really rubs me the wrong way. Or it might be the name of the restaurants. Ooze and Schmooze? For fuck’s sake.
I blasted the name (here and here), I questioned whether the restaurant would ever be built, I did everything but launch a full-fledged investigation into Robert Irvine’s character as a businessman. That’s why we have the St. Pete Times.
According to an article in the Times on Sunday, Irvine owes a bunch of people money, lied or exaggerated repeatedly in person, on his Food Network resume and in his book Mission: Cook!, and is sort of little and sad when cornered. And he impersonated a knight, which means the queen will be sending some beefeaters after Irvine’s hide when she gets around to it.
Maybe I should feel bad for him, but why waste the glorious schadenfreude! And with Ooze and Schmooze still in the works, we might have Robert Irvine to kick around for months or years to come.

This is a sad moment for me. While I find “Dinner: Impossible” a ridiculous bit of television, I also find it ridiculously entertaining.
How can you despise a guy who manages to cook dinner for 40 execs in 4 hours by borrowing food and kitchen equipment from football tailgaters? That’s a resume builder if ever I saw one.

Do you really believe he did that dinner on “the fly” as we say in the business? A few people he “bumped” into during the episode were all in the business.
I never worked for Mr Irvine but from working in Atlantic City for a number of years and knowing his reputation….he’s a dick. He treats everyone except his bosses and sponsors like shit. Every property he’s worked at has had great talent already on staff.
Problem is Sir Robert of Absecon NJ treats the staff like shit……they quit….company can’t hire chefs(because he’s a dick)…and he “leaves”. Three properties in total just in AC. I worked at a property he was coming to and bolted. Having already dealt with the Europian mind set and knowing that if you were not “theirs” you were dust.
I also have a 5 star award and it’s from the same company that Mr Irvine got his from. Trump bought these awards for all his AC properties and they are plastered outside of every restaurant he owns. My girlfriend found mine on the back floor of my Jeep a few months after I received it. I explained to her it’s BS. Note: I’m not a fool and it is NOT on my resume.
Just like Mr Irvine I happen to be a good cook. If I told you that I was a personal Chef for Elton John and Billy Joel would you hire me to be your Chef? $100.000?
Food network……………..?
