Romney officially in

Today he formally announced his candidacy, and Ric Mayfield, who runs Georgians for Romney, watched the speech on Romney’s website.
“I thought he did a pretty good job,” Mayfield says.
The Georgia Republican committed to Romney based on what he described as the governor’s record of business prowess. Romney is the former CEO of Bain and Company, a management consulting firm. He is also the co-founder of Bain Capital, a private equity investment firm, and he was CEO and organizer of the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.
Mayfield says he believes there are only three Republicans who have the fundraising ability to be called credible presidential hopefuls: Romney, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., and Rudy Giuliani, the former mayor of New York City.
“I’m not a fan of McCain’s at all,” Mayfield says. “People I know who have interacted with him just didn’t have a good experience.”
He likes Rudy.
But people with whom Mayfield’s talked about Romney reported particularly good news.
“I spoke with someone who had worked with Romney in Salt Lake City on the Olympics,” Mayfield says. “She told me he’s such a stand-up guy — the same person in small committee meetings as he was in front of cameras. Just a charismatic leader with a vision. She couldn’t say enough good things about him.”
Mayfield reported that former Sen. Jim Talent, R-Mo., recently signed on with the Romney campaign.
“The campaign from all appearances is very well-organized,” Mayfield says.
