Corndogorama and the Earl parting ways? Say it ain’t so!
April 6, 2007 at 5:58 pm by Mara Shalhoup in NewsI just got this e-mail from Patrick Hill, promoter and booking agent for the Earl. It makes me real sad:
Howdy folks-
After a seven-year relationship with Corndogorama and David Railey, The EARL is disappointed to announce that we will not be hosting this year’s event, previously scheduled for June 21-24.
When Corndogorama first came to our venue in 2000, it was a moderately attended one-day event. Over the course of the past seven years, we have been delighted to watch it grow into an eagerly awaited four-day festival.
Corndogorama, while increasingly hosting national acts, was always known to those in the East Atlanta music scene as the preeminent showcase for local talent, always eclipsing more established and better funded local “showcases.” More than just a music fest, though, “Corndog” became a celebrated meeting place; for newcomers to the scene as well as former Atlanta residents whose vacations revolved around the event. Or, as many put it, “Corndogorama is my favorite damn weekend of the year.”
However, with this increased success (attendance grew steadily at a rate of 150% each year), came disagreements as to the future of the festival. It was these disagreements that have led David Railey, the event’s founder and figurehead, to move it to another location. The EARL wishes to thank David for letting us play host to this event and hopes nothing but continued success for both he and the Corndog.
Eat a peach.

I’ll try this weekend to find out why Corndogorama is leaving the Earl and, more importantly, where it’s going. Will it be leaving East Atlanta? Can there possibly be another neighborhood that could play host to such a debaucherous meeting of kick-ass indie bands and their most ardent Atlanta fans?
This is the biggest indie-rock news since Lenny’s was forced to abandon its charmingly decrepit Memorial Drive trailer and move a few blocks to a traditional (but sufficiently gritty) former sports bar. As for East Atlanta, this could prove to be as bad for the ‘hood as the shuttering a few years back of the Echo Lounge (RIP). Hopefully not.
I’ll be sure to let you know what I find out …
