And Boortz is 100% correct. I actually read some liberals blog in which he wrote that he'd rather get killed by a mugger than carry a gun. Makes sense to me. Darwinism in full effect.

Unlike commenter NRB, I'm not capable of reading people's minds. I can only judge Boortz's intent by what he actually wrote.

Re-read the passage above. Boortz wrote that the victims stood by in terror waiting to be shot, in a manner consistent with the "surrender-comply-adjust" ethics of the so-called left.

You can write all you want about what Boortz may have meant, but what he wrote is not in dispute.

He apologized today for being insnesitive and offensive, as he should have.....

BTW, Bootz did nto blame the victims, he clearly blamed the murderer. What he asked was why can't 15 or 20 people overpower one little weakling with a gun? What spurs some to action and freezes others? He then bloviates about why his enemies are attacking him for asking those questions.

The self-defense question is legitimate and is now being explored in the media by lots of people with letters after their names.

Is it wrong to compare and contrast the actions of the young people who cowered waiting to be executed to those of the Holocaust survivor who reacted immediately and shielded the door while urging his students to escape?

I am not blaming the victims....I am trying to learn about human nature and how a situation like this can be better handled. I am responsible for ten people at work and wonder how we would react and why.

I think it\\\'s fairly hard to make a case that Boortz\\\'s words were not, at least, intemperate. It\\\'s possible that someone with a gun could have stopped the killings at Virginia Tech. It\\\'s possible that a group of unarmed people could have done the same. At the same time, it\\\'s possible, even probable, that the people who were in the situation, in the moment were simply afraid and too shocked to react defensively. We\\\'ve all been raised on imagery of superheroism and self-sacrifice, but it\\\'s hard, probably even impossible to know how we\\\'d react in a situation where those things are needed. I\\\'m sure everyone would want to bravely throw themselves at the attacker to save others, or to use their wits to save the day, but when the utterly mundane normalcy of their class was suddenly destroyed in a burst of intense violence, it seems unfair to expect their minds to be clear and ready for action. We don\\\'t have the right, sitting here at keyboards without guns in our faces, with no professor lying dead a few feet away, to second guess the behavior of the people who lived (or did not live) through it.

Andisheh says - "discuss possible ways of reacting to armed attackers. But that’s not what Boortz is doing"....

So what do you make of Boortz statement "any questions as to why 25 students didn’t try to rush and overpower "

Not the focus of his rant, but a key element. Yes, Boortz is an obnoxious blowhard, just like John Sugg and myself, but, even obnoxious blowhards (Iike us) make a good point from time to time. SOmetimes a reasonable and logical point is offensive to very sensitive people. My wife is a VT alum and has been glued to the TV for the last few days.

"So impressive, in fact, that maybe you can help me out with something. Can you read my mind and help me figure out where I may have left my driver’s license? I’ve looked all over the house."
====================================================

Maybe you used it as a bookmark? Check in your copy of 'the communist manifesto'.

But anyways, you took Boortz's comment out of context and you know it. But you have to spin it to try and bash Neal so that Sugg will approve your tripe for print.

For the sake of figuring out how one can avoid death or injury in the event of such attacks, it's indeed useful to discuss possible ways of reacting to armed attackers. But that's not what Boortz is doing.

My wife and I were also wondering how one guy with a guy could exact that much mayhem. The news reports, I think, were that he walked into a classroom, shot the instructor, and then ordered all the students in the classroom to stand against a wall. Though I don\\\'t know for sure how I\\\'d react, I don\\\'t think I\\\'d follow orders. Even if the students initially followed orders and lined up (perhaps because they wanted to believe the shooter wanted only to kill the instructor) at some point very soon thereafter it seems that they would have realized he intended to kill the entire group. It\\\'s pretty impossible to imagine that the attack would\\\'ve succeeded had some students fought back. This does not mean they\\\'re not innocent victims. A rowdy rambunctious crowd, though, would have been able to stop the shooting, I think. Would I have been brave enough to be one of the rowdy ones? I don't know.
